How can I stop the update message for High Sierra

Every week I get a message that I can update to High Sierra. It is annoying as I can't just click it away but have to open the App Store to keep the message away for a week.

I currently run MacOS sierra and use two programs that are incompatible with High Sierra (Filemaker 11 and QuickSync). At least Filemaker won't release an update. They rather sell me a newer version of their program for a few hundreds of euro.

VIN,iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

If you download High Sierra and keep it in your /Applications folder after the download, you shouldn't be nagged by Apple telling you that you qualify to use High Sierra.

After the download completes, the installer screen will appear. Quit the installer from the Menu Bar so it doesn't install and just stays in /Applications.

Good Idea.

I even have the High Sierra installer on my nas from my first update that crippled all Filemaker databases. I just put copy it back to the application folder en report back in a week to tell if that did the trick.

Edit: No. When trying to copy it back, I get the message that the installer was already in the application folder. Being present does not stop the message. 😢

I know this always works for me.

Try deleting any High Sierra installers from /Applications, download it again and Quit the installer. It might be the Apple ID you're logged in with needs to be recognized as the ID that downloaded it rather than a copy.

I wondered were the installer on my iMac came from as it is the 13.1 installer. The one on my nas was the 13.0 installer I used earlier for my MacBook.

Looking back, I think it came in my programs folder from the Time Machine re-install. The "kMDItemDateAdded" time I get for that file is in the middle of the 4 hrs period I was restoring my mac.

Friday 9th november I updated to High Sierra. Thuesday the 14th I encountered the problems and restored from backup from a time shortly before the update to High Sierra. Apparently the installer was already in that backup.

For now I deleted the installer and wait if the update message comes back. If yes, I download it again and quit the installer. It will take some weeks till I can confirm this worked. Thanks.

I tried both suggestions without success.

I re-downloaded the installer and left it in the program folder. After a week I got the update notification again.

Then I option-clicked the High Sierra update message in the Appstore. This indeed helps to suppress the message there. However, I just got the update message on my desktop. And clicked it away for another week. ggrrrrm.

I & others ctrl (2-finger)-clicked on the update in App Store & chose 'Hide Update'.

How do I disable the notifications for the upgrade to macOS High Sierra?
