Disc burning issue not solved with itunes 12.7.2.60

Since itunes 12.7.2.58 I can no longer burn a playlist on CD. Apparently this issue hasn't been addressed with ...60 - I tried after installing ....60 and got the same result - burning stops with unknown error after first track.

My PC is running on Windows 10 64 bit latest patch version. Disc burning with other apps is working fine (Nero, Roxio).

Any resolution known?

Allen A,

This is the same reply that I recently on another inquiry.

This burning issue has NOTHING to do with any of the troubleshooting tips that you outline!! It is a "BUG" that was introduced in iTunes 12.7.2.58 and continues in iTunes 12.7.2.60. If you follow threads that myself and other commenters have opened you will find that dozens of users are experiencing this issue.

In my case I can say without any question that this is a software bug. Why? I have the advantage of multiple computers and have iTunes installed on 4 of 5 of them (though one of them is the "host" system for my music collection which tops 75,000 songs). When I first encountered the issue on my primary system (after using Apple Software Update to upgrade from iTunes 12.7.1.14 to iTunes 12.7.2.58) I attempted to replicate the problem on one of my other systems that was still running iTunes 12.7.1.14. The same content (formed into a playlist to match up to the contents of a set of classical MP3's) that produced a burn error under iTunes 12.7.2.58 burned an audio CD WITHOUT any problems when iTunes 12.7.1.14 was the host software.

To further validate that the issue involved a "bug" with iTunes 12.7.2.58 I then used Apple Software Update to upgrade the iTunes version on the computer that had just been used to successfully burn an audio CD (while running iTunes 12.7.1.14) to iTunes 12.7.2.58. After the upgrade (and of course with the requisite restart of the computer) I attempted to burn the same playlist to an audio CD. What was the result? FAILURE!! So with the only variable being the version of iTunes software (12.7.1.14 vs. 12.7.2.58) used I got a successful CD burn with 12.7.1.14 and a failed CD burn with 12.7.2.58. I spent 6+ years as a server administrator for a very large governmental unit (yes that means Windows) and spent a lot of time troubleshooting issues. Trust me when you have a "single" variable in what does or does not produce the desired result you have found the problem about 99.99% of the time.

When Apple quietly released iTunes 12.7.2.60 I upgraded my primary system to the latest version (again using Apple Software Update) and found that the issue persists.

So it is time that Apple addresses this issue (I know from community postings that they have gotten multiple phone calls with several support staff promising that the issue is being escalated to the engineering team).

I'm getting ready to call support myself but I'm hoping that your "Support Communities" status will assist in getting this issue escalated!!

udo53:

I had the same issue on my Win 7 machine and the fix is to roll back your iTunes version to 12.7.1.14. as suggested by turingtest2 on 12/15/17. I uninstalled according to iTunes instructions (you must uninstall all apple components in the order they indicate) then download the 12.7.1.14 version and install it.

I have been wrestling with this for hours, including a call with Apple support who only told me to re-install the existing version of iTunes, which didn't fix the issue. The roll back worked and I'm writing CD's again.

It's frustrating that Apple doesn't acknowledge this version flaw as discovered by rogerbat. Thanks for your detailed troubleshooting explanation, rogerbat - VERY Helpful.

Definitely not solved!!!! Just spent 2 hours trying to sort it all out, lost 5 CD-Rs in the process, a lot of stress, just when I needed to knuckle down and get a job prepared. So not cool, such a big glitch! So with my old laptop, been burning CD-Rs for years, no problem (apart from odd cd-r here and there but nothing like this!). Currently running Windows 10, just upgraded to latest i-tunes (12.7.2.60) and suddenly, can't change the seconds between the tracks, can't tick the box that indicates track names / ID on CD-R. Try to burn and it just burns 4 tracks onto the CD-R. So infuriating and such a basic problem. Had to uninstall this latest version and install an old version (12.7.0.66), which wasn't so easy to find...So glad I didn't have to fiddle with my library and losing latest tracks. But please Apple sort this out ASAP!!! Thanks.

Hi to anyone that has had this problem with burning CD and getting an error. I think I have solved the problem. I burned the CD at a lower speed like 2x it took little longer but I got no error message after first song it worked!!😃👍-1F3FC; You need to burn the CD at a lower speed for it to work. The new version of iTunes doesn’t recognize the “maximum possible“ speed so I think it needs a digit in there like 2x or 14x! Will need to play around with the speed! Have a good day happy burning😇😃😀

Tried the 2x burning speed... nope.

Might be my ancient Acer, running Windows 10 64-bit, latest update, also Chrome, latest update... it got further than anything else, but still, it failed. Not sure if the Microsoft update is the problem, or Apple is the problem. I know these guys are competitors, but ****... you'd think they'd test their **** before unleashing it on the public.

Between Microsoft's & Apple's updates, I'm amazed anyone's PC still functions properly.

Note to Apple...

Look. For YEARS I have burned cd's from iTunes playlists. I know how it's done. But now, with the latest version, burning ends with an 'error' after the first track. You have wrecked the burning process for Windows with your latest version. I --- like many other people --- have thousands of purchased, downloaded music tracks in iTunes. We are the people who support paying for music rather than stealing it from everywhere. Please correct the burning 'error' in an updated iTunes version. It's a simple fix.

For people stuck there IS an easy remedy. Drag and Drop your iTunes music library into Windows Media Center. Burning playlists from there is no problem. Or, Drag and Drop into Cyberlink Media Player. Clean, clear burns are no problem.

It is just stupid that iTunes burning has ended.

After destroying over twenty discs, and uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes numerous times (not to mention uninstalling Roxio creator in case there was a conflict), I finally had Apple net-op into my machine and learned that you now have to right-click on the playlist name under the "Library" column (not the "File" dropdown menu in the upper toolbar, and select "Burn Playlist to Disc" to make the application work properly. Too bad this instruction hasn't yet been incorporated into the suggested solutions provided by Apple on their website. Good luck...

I will try that. Took me awhile to figure out what you meant. But it does seem to relate to the other error message which comes up sometimes, to the effect of a list of songs that can't be burned that are not at all in the specified playlist. I wondered what it was looking at when it gathered a seemingly random collection of cloud-stored tunes.

I have been having the same issues since the last update came out too! I constantly get windows error 0x80004005 whenever I try to burn a CD with iTunes. Windows Media Player does the same thing or not work at all. If I slow the burn speed down to 2x I AM able to burn CDs somehow. I hope this gets resolved so I can burn at max speed but at least I am burning full CDs not one track then getting the error message...

There have been other reports with 12.7.2.x that the wrong playlist is burnt although it isn't exactly clear what the cause is. This issue may have carried over into 12.7.3.46 although I had no problem burning my chosen list last night with it. You cannot burn anything stored in the cloud of that has come thought the Apple Music service.

Make sure the list you want to burn is active in front of you and highlighted in the sidebar then right-click on the playlist name use Burn Playlist from the context menu. If that doesn't work what error message if any do you get?
