iMessage - messages arriving in wrong order

Hi, just realized that during conversations on iMessage the ordering is not correct. When I ask question and sb reply to it quickly, the answer is being displayed before my question in conversation. Anybody have the same issue and know any resolution ?

Hi Streetspy,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iMessage contacts appear out of order. Let's look into this together.

First, make sure your iPhone has been updated to the latest iOS version -- Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue persists after updating, the following information may help isolate the issue further:

1. Does this happen with multiple iMessage conversations?

2. Do you have Date & Time set to Automatic under Settings > General > Date & Time?

3. Do you see a red exclamation mark or "Not Delivered" alert under any of the messages you send?

Cheers.

Hi Brenden,

thanks for checking this with me.

I have to answer 3 x YES. This happens in multiple conversation, with many users and only when response is quick. My time/date are set to automatic and there is no red exclamation mark nor any warning of undelivered message.

Does anybody have further ideas?

Cheers!

Count me in too, same issue, ios 11.2.1 Only happens when the conversation is going back and forth in real time. I have sent a message and the person has replied to that message, yet the reply is shown before my message in the message string, an odd bug. Let's hope an update sorts this quickly.

I am having the same problems. Wrong order on multiple chats, with ios 11.2.1 on both ipad and iphone.

If I close the imessage app and open it again, the messages are sorted back to normal in the correct order. So it happens only, when people reply in a current conversation.

I hope, an update will fix it soon.

Since updating to iOS 11 this issue occurs for me as well, messages sent within 7 seconds after mine show as being before.

Using MrCDevine's suggested fix (Re: iMessage - messages arriving in wrong order) now results in my messages sent within 7 seconds showing before messages previously sent by others. Hopefully this information helps Apple resolve the issue.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063I am returning to this thread--I posted a couple of months ago that I had the problem on my laptop and phone. The phone has somehow fixed itself, but the laptop never has. Yesterday I called Apple support and spoke with a woman who had never heard that anyone had this problem (and she checked with a senior tech who had ALSO never heard--what the heck, nearly 7K people have said they have the problem on this question.)

ANWYAY she gave me a solution that seems to have worked, so far. First I made a test account and checked to see whether that account had the problem: No.

Then she had me reset the NVRAM on my Mac.

And that seems to have fixed it.

Same here as all the others. iOS up to date at 11.2.1 on iPhone 6S.

  • Yes to multiple iMessage conversations.
  • Yes to date/time set to automatic/
  • No to red exclamation mark or not delivered.

Seems to only happen as others have said with iMessages and not txts. I've tested this and confirmed not happening with (green) txt messages.

Also when messaging back and forth in real time as opposed to delayed replies by minutes or longer but haven't yet confirmed the timing.

I am seeing the same issue as well. Just started happening a few days ago. I wonder if it is caused by the latest iOS update, which I (drumroll) just installed a few days ago.

So I am in the same boat as Streespy; Latest OS, same date settings, happens in multiple conversations, no exclamations.

I'm having the same issue with imessages when we are replying to each other in real time. My message is shown then the sender's reply is showing before my message. This is very frustrating as sometimes, I think the person hasn't responded yet. I hope this bug is fixed SOON!

I have a friend that was experiencing the same issue as everyone here. After reading this conversation and everyone’s posts, I told her to go into settings, turn off iMessage and then restart her phone. After restarting, turn iMessage back on. This seems to have fixed the issue for her

Getting the same problem when using iMessage.

One of the texts that will be sent from the other person will stay at the bottom of the conversation in some cases.

This morning texts that I had recieved just disappeared from the text conversation.

I have an IPhone 6, and I haven't updated my phone in over a year because I know these updates will slow my phone down. But if this is an update issue then I guess Apple decided I needed this issue without me actually agreeing to choose to update.

I thought this might be a carrier problem and was about to go to Verizon before finding this thread.

Hopefully there is a solution to this soon.
