I cannot change the Safari homepage

Hello, ever since my latest update I suddenly can't change my default homepage in the Safari preferences anymore. When I fill the box with another url like http.....google for instance the address immediately changes back to www.apple.com. Very annoying.

I already tried many suggestions given in previous questions about this subject ( deleting the .plist etc.) but to no avail.

Anyone?

I would uninstall Intego. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files.

As far as macOS is concerned, F-secure is an unnecessary application.

Wacom tablet software

Uninstall and test.

Reinstall it.

Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Disable all extensions and test.

If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues

I'm having the same issue in my iMac which was purchased a couple weeks ago…I've read about changing and fixing permissions of the home folder and done those as well, but just can't seem to find a solution that works.

I ran EtreCheck once and remove possible files…here's the 2nd report I ran…any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

Thanks Eric. Will do. Do you think these adware files have anything to do with the apple.com website launch?

I recently bought a wacom pen tablet.

Etrecheck keeps asking me if i am sure......

And why should I uninstall the f-secure.plist? I use f-secure although I have often wondered if it is of use. The cable company advised even though I had the feeling it was a Windows program.

I removed what needed removing, deleted f-secure and intego, uninstalled an re-installed Wacom. The problem of the unwanted apple website popping up on new Safari tabs is solved! Don't know what did it, may have been the removal of the adware. Anyway, thanks Eric Root and dominic23 for your help and advice! The etrecheck is a very good tip as well as the other info. This was my first time on this forum and it was very helpful.

One other question: The software update that caused this problem also brought me another one. Suddenly I am asked for my password when I start the computer, I didn't have that before. That in itself is not a big thing but my wacom pen doesn't work on that first page. Luckily I still have an old wired mouse...

So, what should I do to stop the computer to ask for my password (when started)?

Or do I have to open a new topic?
