The current version of iTunes will not work with disc burning, don't bother trying. If you're on windows, do this instead.
1) Open Windows Media Player
2) In the top left bar select Organize -> Manage Libraries -> Music
3) Select "Add" on the right hand side to add your iTunes music files to Windows Media Player, the address should be something like this: C:\Users\Username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music
4) Your iTunes music should now show up in your Windows Media Player library, you can now use the Windows Media Player burn system which is very easy and works perfectly.
5) Make wonderful CD gifts for your family and friends and proceed to jam our to your favorite holiday tunes 😀
No, uninstall iTunes from the programs (apps) and features control panel then download and install one of the following as appropriate:
Your library will be left alone. That said you really ought to Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy or some similar method.

While reluctant to uninstall iTunes and install earlier version, after trying other suggestions and trashing CDs, I gave it a try and now everything seems just fine and I can now go back to burning CDs for listening on my commute. Thank!
Apple Software Update can occasionally fail to pick up on new releases.
There was a general issue burning CDs with iTunes 12.7.2.x for Windows at anything over 2x speed.
iTunes 12.7.3.46 for Windows appears to burn CDs normally at full speed and with mixed formats.
It can be downloaded from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/. Some regional sites may supply an older version.
When burning or printing use the right-click context menu on the playlist in the sidebar. File > Burn Playlist to Disc still seems to be unreliable and may attempt to burn the wrong list.

Tried going back but it did not work for me. Also, the solution of using Windows Media Player is easier. You can even burn directly by drag and drop of the music to a cd.
Thank you so much Apple!!! This issue with disc burning has been resolved. I just updated to 12.7.4.76 and I thought what the heck I will see if I can burn a Cd without getting an error code, or a really screwed up Cd. And it worked perfectly......I can't say thank you enough.
Having the same error on both desktop (Windows 10) and laptop (Windows 7). Agree with honeybadger619, issue is with ITunes update to 12.7.2.60. No error prior to that update.
I think it depends on exactly what you're trying to burn, e.g. purchased vs. ripped media. Either way reverting to 12.7.1.14 works around the issue until Apple get out a new version.

Uninstall itunes and click on tt2's post and reinstall it worked for me.
I have this too, I just updated to the newest version of itunes, then I tried to burn a disk, I am making cds for my kids for the car, and it burns one song and then I get the error code 0x80004005.
I wasted 10 CD's trying to do it. :-(
Just called apple, I was told that the new version of itunes will no longer let you burn your playlists to CD, even if you bought the songs from itunes. Copyright apparently. so the newest version will let you try to burn, but crash and make you waste loads of blank cds. Just had a very frustrating phone call with apple.... GRRRRRR
I cant use my ipod in the car, I burn my playlists to CD like I have done for years, and now I cant, what a waste of money buying albums from itunes :-(
Hi! I was able to burn an MP3 cd today, so if your car stereo supports mp3 cds, you can try that...
Windows Media Player can burn songs purchased on Itunes. Try drag and drop and it should work even better then using WMP.
Perhaps iTunes 12.7.2.x is taking too long to switch between the two decoders and the write buffer runs out of data before the burn completes. That would certainly cause an error.

I just had an itunes update (1/24/18) and can now burn cd's again
I will save you the 2 hours I just spent on the phone with iTunes (un)support. There is a problem with the update. It took burning through 8 perfectly good CD's going through Apple's dog-and-pony show so they could tell me "yes, there's nothing wrong with your CD burner." Duh. I had to go through 3 levels of customer disservice before somebody speaking middle-management corporate speak finally admitted it. So until Apple fixes it, there's nothing anyone can do about it.
How come I am able to burn directly in Windows 7 without even using Windows Media Player. In WIN7, you can drag and drop the files to be burned on a cd and then burn it. So, if WIN7 was problematic, that would not work. As many others have said, with WMP it works. So I can burn two ways and I cannot with Itunes.
