Messages app badge icon not showing up.

I have an iPad mini 4 running iOS 11.2.1. Since 11.2 I have noticed that when I receive a new text message/iMessage I don’t get the little red circle on the messages icon showing the number of unread messages. I do get notifications just not the red badge on the icon.

Now or this problem was fixed for about a day after updating to 11.2.1 but then came back. I then erased and restored my iPad from backup, which also fixed for a day then broken again. I then did a complete restore and set iPad up as new, and still have the same problem...

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I’ve got the exact same issue on my iPad. I contacted Apple one day and they said to reset all settings and that worked for about a week or so and now I’m back to having the same issue.

Really frustrating.

I am having this same problem. Followed all the troubleshooting guidelines that other iPad users outlined below and no luck. I have a 2017 9.7-inch 5th Gen iPad. Apple techs: obviously this is an unsolvable problem until you do a bug fix. Just do it already!

I’m not sure who told you it was just the wallet, bc it is not. The setting does what it says, it resets all your personal presences. it Wipes out you network connections, so you gphave to reconnect. And it resets anything you did in preferences. I believe it resets everything in these below sections. So you would need to keep track of what you are changing in these parts of setting.

So I was on vacation last week and just got back. And just as I suspected, my app badges have stopped working again. Looks like the latest update fixed it for a few days and then right back to the same. I’m hoping that Apple will actually fix this soon.

I have left feedback multiple times. Everyone else should do the same. We need to bring some attention to this small but very annoying bug.

The same thing happened to me the first time.

the one thing that was different this time is that when I did the Reset All the kid at the Apple store noticed that my home screen picture did not reset, so we did it again.

I would recommend:

  1. Reset All
  2. do the bare minimum to logon and other stuff that you do for initializing a new device
  3. power down/restart
  4. do Reset All AGAIN
  5. then go thru the setup completely

mine has been working since then (I hope I didn’t jinx myself!)

I know resetting all your custom stuff is a pain (particularly if you do a lot of customizing like I do), but hopefully this will be the last time! And it is better than a restore (which I refuse to do).

I really think this has to do with a cache file that isn’t getting cleared correctly. Things like a reboot and software updates are clearing it enough for it to work for a while, but eventually, you are bumping into the wrong bit.

mine has been working for a week now and I have done the update. I better not have just jinxed myself!

these are the steps I would recommend. Below is a copy/paste of my prior reply.

Yes it does seem to be an iPad only issue. I have noticed it since 11.2. I sure hope it gets fixed soon as I use my iPad for messaging quite often. I have used the apple feedback link to submit the issue. Not sure if anyone looks at that stuff but I figured it was worth a try.

I have this same issue too on my iPad Pro. It started after updating to 11.2.1. Went to the Apple store last night and the tech did a “reset all settings”and it worked before we left the store, but today it isn’t working again. Works on my IPhone8 with the same O/S interestingly. Please fix this!

Greetings all and a happy and holy New Year.

with that bit of joy aside, there’s no joy in saying that I’ve got this issue too on an iPad mini 4 running 11.2.1. Had it before, only with iOS 11. Got fixed by doing an erase all. Was working just beautifully. until today. It’s crazy work to reload all the stuff I need to download, so wiping everything out for a THIRD time is just too much.

Anyone have a solution?

Apple, are you reading these forums??

Same problem here...11.2.1 seems to be the issue. I have two iPad Air 2’s, one is running iOS 11.1.1 and has no problem. The one I updated to 11.2.1 does have the issue. Resets work for a short period and problem is back.

Also very slow in having mail updated?? I will not be updating the software on my other iPad for now.

Come on Apple fix the bug!
