Messages app badge icon not showing up.

I have an iPad mini 4 running iOS 11.2.1. Since 11.2 I have noticed that when I receive a new text message/iMessage I don’t get the little red circle on the messages icon showing the number of unread messages. I do get notifications just not the red badge on the icon.

Now or this problem was fixed for about a day after updating to 11.2.1 but then came back. I then erased and restored my iPad from backup, which also fixed for a day then broken again. I then did a complete restore and set iPad up as new, and still have the same problem...

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Well son of a gun!! Thank you so much for this!! It works. But like you said, for the time being. We'll see just how long it lasts.

Resetting just the settings for me wasnt such such a big deal because most everything is at default, but it does wipe out the keyboards, and the background app refreshes, etc. Odd though, it used to have “mobile data” and. Is after this reset it’s called “cellular data”. Interesting.

guess we’ll see what happens when they do something to patch up the meltdown bugs.

I always laugh when they say oh the reset only effects Apple wallet, and a few other things. Bull, it effects a lot. My keyboard came back different. My imessaging wasn’t working with certain phone numbers, all your sounds are defaulted, etc. even though a factory reset is worse I know. But it just ticks me off when they say oh just do A Reset, to correct something g that wasn’t broken until they messed it up.

Guess i will wIt to hear from you in a few days to see if it lasts. You were lucky he could look at other programs to notice they were not right and redo it so you didn’t have more problems.

Thanks so mich for taking your time. Stay warm

I’m not sure who told you it was just the wallet, bc it is not. The setting does what it says, it resets all your personal presences. it Wipes out you network connections, so you gphave to reconnect. And it resets anything you did in preferences. I believe it resets everything in these below sections. So you would need to keep track of what you are changing in these parts of setting.

I thought the same thing when it came back after the 11.2.1 update. But the problem returned after about 24 hours. Keep an eye on it for a couple days and let me know if it keeps working. For some reason resets and system updates restore functionality but only for limited time. So strange.

Keep us updated. Only time will tell for sure.

I am hoping if I do this update, the badge icon will stay. I am so reluctant to trust it since the latest update to 11.2.1 is the first time I have ever had problems with an update and I consider myself very lucky for that. I do have the mini 2 with the retina, so I realize it is an older model. I have rumors about Apple not developing another mini and I would hate to mess this one up even more.

I will be watching to see if your update did indeed fix this problems, but I know that security comes first over inconvenience, so I will do it.

Llevesque, you are not trying to be rude, really? I apologize if I "repeated" what was already posted but this is my first time posting in Apple Support. Shame on me, right? Or, maybe we should ALL air our grievances with such basic functionality problems. If so many of us report the problem in a public forum, then there's a better chance that they will take notice and not hide the fixes in their updates (they have not acknowledged a fix for this problem in their 11.2.2 update, but some fix is definitely in that update; it is not listed on their iOS 11 update page). Or, in your view, maybe I shouldn't have posted a "me too" post and others should have not either....let Apple think that's it's not really a big problem. As for your advice that it will be low on their fix list, I don't need to hear your opinion. Yeah, I work in IT too, but as a consumer my concern is that I paid $1,000 for a product and it is now missing a core piece of functionality. I want Apple to hear, and for those of us who are not "cooled drinkers", we just may not buy the product again and, rather, we make change to our lifestyle so we are not dependent on this gadget because problems like this one are HUGE time wasters; we can spend our discretionary money elsewhere.

I guess we all are. Apple Customer Service, please, look into this for us will you. I am at a loss to understand why, after so many people calling and this board alone, you have not even acknowledged this is a problem. And I am having problems with other apps since the download on Tuesday. It is a real disappointment considering how much you charge for your products. Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave.

The update actually made things worse for you?

thats a shock considering it was only a security fix for spectre.

Either way, it’ll get fixed eventually. But I don’t understand your note about the price they charge. You make it sound like they charge an astronomical amount of money for iPads, iPhones, etc

what would you rather have that is significantly cheaper but similar specs?
