Messages app badge icon not showing up.

I have an iPad mini 4 running iOS 11.2.1. Since 11.2 I have noticed that when I receive a new text message/iMessage I don’t get the little red circle on the messages icon showing the number of unread messages. I do get notifications just not the red badge on the icon.

Now or this problem was fixed for about a day after updating to 11.2.1 but then came back. I then erased and restored my iPad from backup, which also fixed for a day then broken again. I then did a complete restore and set iPad up as new, and still have the same problem...

Is anyone else experiencing this?

iPad Mini Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 11.2.1, 4th Generation

Also keep an eye on it if you think it is solved. Many others in this thread have been able to regain functionality temporarily with a reinstall of iOS. However, like with mine, the problem always returns within a day or two.

Fwiw ... I personally won't be performing an unpredictable reset of my iPad in an attempt to fix this. Instead, I intend to wait until Apple fixes the problem that was clearly introduced in a recent iOS update (11.2.1?). Just an acknowledgement from Apple that the problem exists would be a step in the right direction. Missed 3-4 more messages today because of this. 😠

I just updated this monring—still no badge icon until turned the iPad off and then back on. I did NOT reset.

So far so good! Messages badge icon is working on the ipad, iphone, & macbook pro....

Well, I take that back. Count me among those who've reported that 11.2.2 corrected the problem, only to have it reappear a few days later. As of this morning, the red badge icon is once again not showing up and I'm missing messages again. As I've reported already, the banner alert and audio chime haven't been affected, just the badge. Hey Apple ... tons of free troubleshooting by your customers here and there's a definitive pattern. Aren't there any employees in Cupertino who own iPads? If so, would you kindly send TC a link to this thread? Thanks. 😠

So I was on vacation last week and just got back. And just as I suspected, my app badges have stopped working again. Looks like the latest update fixed it for a few days and then right back to the same. I’m hoping that Apple will actually fix this soon.

I have left feedback multiple times. Everyone else should do the same. We need to bring some attention to this small but very annoying bug.

Same iPad mini same problem. It started as an island when I had 11.2.1. When I updated to 11.2.2 it worked. But today it stopped working. I think it has something to do when the iPad is connected to the iPhone. The badge app icon appears on the phone but stopped coming up on the iPad.

I also have this same issue, started with saying i had 2 unread. I could not get it to go away. I wiped it out and started the whole ipad from scratch. It fixed it for 2 days then i updated to 11.2.2 and now i get no badge notification for messages. I do not want to redo this whole system again

Have had this problem on and off for two months. Updates help for a day or two and then the number stops showing again. I have done everything suggested on Apple forums, but nothing is a permanent fix. I contacted Apple Support and was told there is no fix for this problem at this time!!!!! Come on Apple.....fix it!

Well, even though I had done the reset before this time it worked. Keeping fingers crossed. This really has been an odd problem.

After updating to 11.2.2 Messages worked fine for a couple of day on my iPad. Yesterday I lost the badge icon and sound again. Weird.

Yes it does seem to be an iPad only issue. I have noticed it since 11.2. I sure hope it gets fixed soon as I use my iPad for messaging quite often. I have used the apple feedback link to submit the issue. Not sure if anyone looks at that stuff but I figured it was worth a try.

I have this issue also, on iPad. Now I don’t know how many messages I might have. Instead I need to open messages manually to find out if I have any messages. In settings, the badge is set to on.

Please advise.

It isn't a iPad problem only, I have the same problem on my iPod touch and it's really frustrating...
I really hope Apple fixes this problem as fast as possible, I can't handle it anymore. I keep forgetting to answer texts.

Greetings all and a happy and holy New Year.

with that bit of joy aside, there’s no joy in saying that I’ve got this issue too on an iPad mini 4 running 11.2.1. Had it before, only with iOS 11. Got fixed by doing an erase all. Was working just beautifully. until today. It’s crazy work to reload all the stuff I need to download, so wiping everything out for a THIRD time is just too much.

Anyone have a solution?
