IOS 11.2.1 "No service/searching"

After downloading IOS 11.2.1 yesterday my iphone continuously cycles between "No Service" and "Searching."

I've tried turning the phone off and on several times. I've also reset the network settings and ejected and reinserted the SIM card. Eventually my service comes back for a few hours only for it to drop again.

When I went to the verizon store I purchased my phone from I was told that they have had 50+ people come into the store today with the same problem and there was nothing they could do as it was a bug that has affected the antenna.

How can I get this fixed? Is there going to an additional update to fix this issue?

To downgrade iOS11.2.1 to 11.2 only (as long as Apple is still officially signing the 11.2 version)...

On your pc or mac, go to iDownloadblog.com then select their Downloads tab, scroll down to the iPhone section & select the specific iOS 11.2. version for your specific iPhone model. Then select Go & download that specific .ipsw file to your pc or mac desktop.

Once downloaded, connect your iphone via usb cable & open your latest version of iTunes, then *fully backup* your iPhone first, then after it's done, while pressing & holding the Shift key on pc, select Restore tab in iTunes & pick the specific downloaded iOS11.2 version now saved on your desktop (if you don't press the shift key on the pc, iTunes will only download & restore the latest iOS version).

Once the Restore process is finished, your iPhone should then be on iOS11.2. Now set your phone up as a New phone first, then afterward, you can then restore data from your correct backup date. This process will work the same for any iOS downgrade as long as Apple is still allowing/signing that specific version (usually for only a few weeks after every iOS update).

Sorry to hear you lost service again. If your phone has ever had either the screen or battery replaced, sometimes the service person accidently loosens the tiny internal cellular antenna connector on the motherboard (which will cause cellular signal loss). It's located very close to the battery connector cover if you venture to investigate yourself. Good luck.

Same thing happened with my iphone 5s... not that i even use it, but what worked for me was stripping down the whole phone, then heating the antenna up with a hairdryer, then assembling the phone back up and that should do the trick... i was able to do this because i dont have any warranty for my iphone 5s and i barely even use the phone, so i dont really care... but i suggest you dont do this for newer phones unless your experienced because you might damage something and the phone might not work anymore, Good Luck

The same thing is happening to my Mom's phone (iPhone 6). Her phone worked perfectly fine before she updated to 11.2.1. Once she updated the phone, her phone stopped connecting to the AT&T network.

I've tried resetting the network settings, removing the sim card, resetting/restoring the phone - and nothing seems to work. When my mom took her phone to the genius bar, they told her she needed to buy a new phone - obviously, this is absurd.

This is a software problem and needs a fix ASAP - Apple should also compensate people for the days that they've paid for their phone but haven't been able to use them.

If you have downloaded a valid IPSW file specific for your phone and the correct iOS version signed by Apple it should show up. Make sure your phone is in DFU recovery mode. Then in iTunes holding down Shift for Windows or Option for Mac, then "Restore iPhone" should work.

On a side note, my phone is again not working. It made it 48 hours working fine, then inexplicably back to "no service." So I don't think it was the Facebook Messenger app after all. Back to no good solution 😟.... Hoping for an update from Apple.

The new update 11.2.2 didn't help my iPhone 6 either. I've been through every possible reset and reinstall. The only thing that worked (for a few hours) was a complete reinstall of the iOS. Apple tech support has no good advice, and despite this very widespread problem which make the phone unusable except for on WiFi, they are not taking it seriously and seem to be blaming a hardware issue. Clearly this is a software issue and a problem with iOS 11.

Thinking I need to get a new phone at this point, since I need to travel for work and I just need a phone that works. I have had iPhones for years and really like them, but I am completely on the fence about getting another one after this experience. Other brands are likely more reliable and cheaper, and there are some really great phones out there... It seems like Apple has overextended themselves with "fancy" new additions to the iOS, but failing to properly beta test and vet their new ideas. Now, we are paying the price, and are told to go spend lots of money for a new phone. If this hurried and rushed mentality at Apple continues, they will likely continue to lose customers frustrated with performance.

So just to be clear, I am still having the No Service/searching issue.

I've contacted my carrier (Sprint) and have updated my prl numerous times

they've "Refreshed my device from my account" (whatever that means) numerous times

I've reset my network settings mult times

I've reset my entire phone twice and set it up as a new phone before restoring it from backup.

I've tried removing my sim and resetting it.

Apple is turfing this to the carrier (tho it looks like all carriers are seeing similar issues to some degree).

My husband on the same model phone, same ios (now 11.2.2) has none of these issues. When we are in the car together, his phone shows steady signal with only the difference of a bar or two. Mine does not lock on to a signal. I see Sprint 1x, then lte, then 3g, then no service, rinse and repeat.

Sounds like many here have the same issues.

Any resolution to this yet?

I'm done with Apple after 6 years. Reliability is why I stuck with them for so long. They've utterly failed me this time.

I started having the "Searching/No Service" issue on a relatively new iPhone 7 after upgrading to iOS 11.2.2. After 1-2 days, it started crashing randomly. After 3-4 days of frustrating forced reboots, switching in and out of Airplane mode, taking sim card out and back in, and having to resort to WiFi for calls/texts, I tried using iTunes to downgrade my iOS, using iOS 11 image from ipsw.me (images signed by Apple, otherwise downgrade would be blocked by the device). That completely bricked my phone and it got stuck in recovery loop.

I took it the Apple Store today. The 'genius' guy did the same thing I tried. In the end, encountering the same problem I had seen in my attempts on iTunes, with error code 3, which he says is a hardware issue. He told me I would have to get a new phone, costing $320. That made me really mad, because I am not even half-way through paying for my iPhone 7 with Verizon.

I came back home, updated my iTunes and hooked up the phone again. I tried everything, regular recovery mode, DFU mode, nothing worked. Now I consistently get Error Code 4013, with various images signed by Apple. I tried switching PC to Mac, to laptop, changed cables... Nothing.

This is completely outrageous. I have the suspicion that Apple is hiding something again, just like they did with the battery issue. I'm an engineer myself, but I don't know what else to do now.

So... goodbye Apple, good to know you. After I'm done with my current contract, thanks to you which will be completed with my older more reliable iPhone 5s, I will take my business to a good Android dealer.

Like you, we have tried everything to restore my husband's 6s which has been "No Service " since March 18th after recently updated to IOS 11.

Our visit to the Apple Store yesterday was a complete waste of time. The "Genius " did a hard reset which we already knew wasn't going to work based on multiple reports on this forum by so many others with the same problem.

He then told us that our only option was to purchase a new 6s for $300.00. I told him we would absolutely not pay Apple for a new phone.

I asked him why Apple wasn't fixing the problem. He said it isn't an "official " known issue acknowledged by Apple and until it is, there wasn't anything further he could do.

I tried to show him just one of the multiple posts on this forum stating that it is a known issue. He then told me that these forums aren't official communication from Apple.

I also explained that neither our daughter or I have done the update and that both of our phones are fine. All three phones were bought on the same day. We paid for Apple Care for two full years on all three phones and that I was truly disappointed that this happens two months after the warranty.

The phone is not just over two years old! He said 2-1/2 years is pretty good for the life of an IPhone (WHAT!?)

I am not giving up especially after reading this today from Reuters-

While investors were bracing for weak smartphone sales, Apple sold 52.2 million IPhones just shy of analysts estimate of 52.3 million.

I hope that Apple will make this right soon. Please let us know how your visit to the Apple Store went.

Same issue here, my wife's iPhone 6 had the issue, after various attempts and soft/hard restores, went to Verizon store that declared it dead, of course without checking anything. So we bought a used iPhone 6 on ebay, did the update to 11.4, then the restore from backup and it worked for an hour or so, then it started doing it again. I've tried everything, soft/hard reset, swapping sim card with mine, but nothing, both iPhone 6 we have are not working. Luckily we can return the used one, but the original we got from Verizon is now just a nice looking paper weight. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar, but after reading this post i don't have much confidence.

This is clearly a software/hardware issue that Apple has to fix, like they are doing with the iPhone 7. What are the chances that both the two iPhone 6 we have are not working, one that we just got refurbished and we just updated to 11.4?
