iphone 8 home button haptics not working

The haptics on my home button have become intermittent and the function of the button itself has also become intermittent. When I try to select a different haptic response the phone often restarts spontaneously if I select '2'. The phone has suffered no physical damage. And before anyone suggests I go to the Apple store or Genius Bar, there are no Apple stores in New Zealand.

Lots of things started going wrong - there are no haptics, there is no sound, there is a huge lag before phone calls are answered or my voice can be heard, and until the camera functions when it is selected. I have tried restoring to factory settings and it still doesn't work. I have found other people on the internet having the same problem following IOS11.2 This is not a great time of year to have my phone collapse on me!

Hello JCShearer,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, the haptic feedback on your iPhone home button is not working as you expect. If you haven't already, please restart your iPhone as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you're still having this issue, your next step is to use iTunes on your Mac or PC to backup and restore your iOS software to factory settings, as this process erases the information and settings on your device and installs a fresh copy of the latest iOS software. Temporarily setup your phone as new to test your issues, and then restore your backup and test the issues again.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to factory settings
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Best regards.

FORTY HOURS of discussions later Apple has agreed to replace my phone if I mail it to the United States (where I bought it, which I would not have done if they had been truthful in telling me that it couldn't be fixed in any country other than where you buy a phone). No-one had any solutions at all other than the obvious ones and no-one would admit this is a common problem. If only there was a decent alternative.

This is the exact issue i'm having. 60 day old iPhone 8 with iOS 11.2.6. Tried soft reset multiple times and Reset All Settings, yet the issue persists. It will work properly after reset and then the issue will reoccur. Also cant receive or make calls when it's happening, it's like the call doesn't connect. Please let me know if anyone has been able to resolve this successfully.

This is very annoying; I have the same issue with iPhone 8 Plus; sudden loss of haptic on home button, followed by loss of sound and ringing then freezes everywhere specially when scrolling through springboard. Not sure what to do. Apple must act!

Edit: When this happens, it's actually the earpiece voice that doesn't work but I can use the phone and answer calls on loud speakers.

i'm having the exact same issue right now. My alarm didn't even go off this morning and i was late for work. Like, it did go off, but it made no sound. On my way to work i tried playing music on spotify, and it would lag out and reset my phone. I tried running a timer to see if it'd make a sound, and it didn't, it just has the notification of "Timer done" coming down from the top, but no sounds or vibrations. It's not just haptics that's gone, it's the sounds, vibrations and basically any non visual interphase for the user that's gone. I can still go on apps and text people, but anything that goes beyond visuals, it'll lag out or just not have any effect whatsoever.

Have any of you come up with a solution to this? It started on me about 2 weeks ago. Major lagging, no haptic or sounds from main speakers, random restarts. There’s no water damage or body damage. If I do a hard restart, it’ll work for a few minutes and then go right back to the way it was. It’s really frustrating and I hate how apple pretends like the issue doesn’t exist.

I brought it into apple store today, they ran some diagnostics and the results showed that my entire audio system and anything related was down and malfunctioning. The apple Genius determined that this was indicative of a motherboard issue. The motherboard cannot be isolatedly replaced and so they got me a new iphone 8 right there and then.

Had the exact same problems as described in this string - from bizarre haptic behavior to phone lags and freezing, audio problems, etc. After about 5 hours of messing with technicians one of whom genuinely tried to fix my phone and the other who wanted me to repeat a bunch of worthless steps before taking the phone Apple has accepted my 8 month old iPhone 8 Plus for repair under Apple Care. Hopefully, when I get it back in 10 days there will be no further problems. Meanwhile, have to use an scaled down iPhone 6 as a loaner. My 8 Plus was backed up in the Cloud, but hopefully there will be no issues when I attempt to restore it.
