iPhone X Camera Shake

SOLVED: I was also experiencing this issue with my 256GB Black iPhone X and it seemed to start happening after a recent update... I called AppleCare and they asked me and after a little while of troubleshooting he if I had a case on my phone or any kind of magnetic accessories on it (I do, I use one of those magnetic sticky circles to attach my iPhone to my dashboard while driving). He told me to take off the case/magnetic sticky pad and try recording videos again. VOILA! My videos come out perfectly fine and are no longer shaky or unstable! He told me that because of the instruments the Optical Image Stabilization uses, magnetic or metal cases can cause it to be thrown off in a way. I highly recommend checking out your iPhone's accessories as possible culprits! 😁

I had this issue happen once already. I took the phone to Apple they said they haven’t seen this issue yet. They tried to replace the camera but they said the same thing happened to them and then they offered me a new phone. Great no problem. But now a few weeks later I just noticed it’s happening again. Everyone keep going back to Apple, they will fix it under manufacturing defects warranty. As long as they find it wasn’t due to physical damage cause by the user. I’m not sure what’s happening but the more red flags going up will cause them to pay more attention if this issue is wide spread. I also notice some clicking in video play back. In this gif I’m sharing, it’s slowed down to show the defect in the camera.

After several Apple Support calls and 3 visits to the Apple store, the only thing that works is having them replace the camera, which they will and should do free of cost. Takes about 90 min for them to do in the store so make an appt and drop it off.

Interestingly enough, none of the Apple staff have heard of the issue yet despite me imploring them to do a google search and read this thread.

I’ve been following this post - as I’ve also had video shakes only on the native camera app, not on IG or Snapchat. I have an iPhone X 256gb in silver. Anyway got an appt at a Genius Bar and they replaced my camera, no fee, no questions, got it back 3 hours later. Works perfectly fine. Hopefully won’t happen again.

I am a CEO of a company called Nextmotion,since beginning 2017, our solution use an iPhone set up on a circular motorized machine to record before/after videos of patients

Since Apple has released their optical stabilisation with iPhone 6+, shaking problems are terrible, especially when we shoot videos with iPhone setup on Traveling/circular machines like ours

When we use an iPhone 8+, we have this shaking issue with wide angle lens (which is optically stabilized) and when we switch to the teleobjective lens (not optically stabilized) we dont have this issue anymore while we shoot videos

iPhone X is terrible, because both lenses are optically stabilized

Only solution found for now to shoot in wide angle mode is to put a strong magnet at the top right corner of the front panel, aligned with camera

This way, the optical stabilizer is « neutralized » and videos stop to shake

I would like to know if i can be contacted by an engeneer from Apple to know more about that problem and if they are working on a solution...Its been 2 years now i am waiting for a material update that will definetely solve the problem

Also had the same issue. Brought it to Apple this morning and they said their diagnostic tool couldn’t find any issue so it must be software “hardware wouldn’t cause it”. I spoke to the Lead Genius and showed him all the videos I shot and filmed in the store to replicate the issue. They finally agreed to replace the camera. So far so good.

I took my X to the apple store, they replaced the camera and so far so good, been two weeks already

I’ve had the same issue as described in all of these other replies. iPhone X 256GB Black. Camera stabilizer would shake when panning a certain direction. Just went to the apple store for a free warranty repair. They repaired it same day for free and now it workable like a dime. Hope this helps (apple store: pioneer square)

Brand new iPhone 10 here. I read this thread and I took a video and it was jerking and shaking if I moved the camera quickly. I was ready to go back to Apple tomorrow and return it, but I then went to the camera settings and changed the FPS to 60 and it is buttery smooth! Extremely satisfied with the results! Beautiful!!!

60 FPS worked equally well in 1080 and 4k!

update: At apple store genius appointment repaired the iphone x camera as he acknowledged that there was an issue with the camera image stabilization. thanks

To whom do you think you are talking? Apple is not here. We are all just users helping users. So save the rhetoric. So, you have a new iPhone that's under warranty but is defective. What to do, what to do. Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple.

I have the same issue on my 256G iPhone X. I since have taken it to 2 different stores, and neither of them are informed about the problem. The last guy told me the resolution on 4K was too much for it to handle sometimes so it shakes, he thought he solved the problem by pushing it down to 1080. Unfortunately, that did not resolve the problem. So today im back on the phone with Apple, and the girl has no idea what im talking about, just like the 2 other muppets at the Apple Stores that i spent my valuable time setting up and appointment for. Recommending just like the guys said below, restore the phone (they think thats the answer to everything). I told her if she googled the problem, she would see on Apple's own website that this is a problem many people are having, and it seems to be a hardware problem with the camera stabilization. So now im going to waste another several hours of my life once i can actually find an appointment and tell them to swap out my phone to see if that helps like the user below said it does. Hopefully it doesnt happen again with the new phone . Very frustrating to have the problem, even more frustrating that Apple doesnt inform the employees who are supposed to be troubleshooting issues, about the actual issues!!

nobody is responding to what they did to resolve the issue or what happens after their visit to apple genius. my advise is restore your phone wait 24 hrs to see if issue persist ( which believe will persist) then take a visit to the apple store genius to get it diagnose. i’m restoring my fault now ... will update you guys after few days . thanks

Update: took my phone to the Genius Bar at the Apple store. They saw my phone and saw first hand the problem I was having with the rear camera. Theybtokd me that they would replace it free of charge since it’s still under warranty and that I would take an hour and a half to do so. Came back to pick up my phone....but they ended up giving me another iphone x. They informed me that they replaced the camera and it had failed, so they attempted to replaced it again and it failed for a second time.

But what ***** is that I’m now experiencing the same problem with the rear camera on the new iPhone X they gave me. 😒

This is a followup to my previous reply: It has been 1 month since the camera module repair was done on my phone. Just started to notice the same stabilizer issue about a week ago. Going to try and get a replacement.
