why do my letters disappear as i type in contact names to text?

When i go to send a message, the letters are disappearing as i type. For instance, if I’m trying to text my MOTHER, by the time i get to the h, the “mot” has erased, and all of my H contacts are populating! This is super frustrating and i can’t seem to find any info. Anyone?? And sometimes i can’t type more than 2 letters before it happens.

I found a solution that worked. Go to Settings > iCloud > Contacts. Turn off Contacts, keep on your phone, and then turn your Contacts back on and merge. There is clearly a bug on iOS with the Contacts app, where data is erroring out when being loaded into the Messages app. This is why you will see some group text contact photos “flicker” and why when you type a contact while composing a message it also “resets” (errors out). The text “resets” at the same rate as the contact photos flickering. Simply toggling the iCloud > Contacts off/on fixes this.

I have add this issue for a year... U have tried upgrading to new phone, restarting iMessage, restoring phone... nothing has worked. I think it’s related to battery usage. I have noticed that when I restore a phone if I start texting the issue goes away but once the phone is fully restored it’s back and when I look at what apps use the most battery my iMessage is at the top of the list

I have the same issue, it's been doing this for almost a year, restores/restarts/hard restores - nothing fixes is.

To send any SMS on my iPhone I have to type the contacts name about 10 times before it will finally let me enter more than 3 characters without deleting them. It's infuriating.

There's got to be a solution to this. Surely it's something to do with a certain type of contact or character being synced that's not supported. I have various Gsuite accounts synced to my phone via Exchange.

Hi

Have you guys looked into the contacts disappearing when you try to write a text?. The force close doesn’t work. I did a factory reset and it continues. The reset did resolve an issue with the iMessage app. I would open it but it would be frozen upon opening. It would shut down itself after 5 seconds. When I reopened it then the app was accessible. But help with the disappearing letters would be great!!!

Apple messed us up terribly. The rep was on the phone for almost 5 hours trying to resolve our issue. Talked us through a restore , which caused us to lose all the photos inour phone. The restore did nothing to help. I spoke with 3 different Apple reps all of whom said they didn’t know about this issue even though it is all over the forums. Ummm!

Amazing! Apple acts dumbfounded about this issue even though hundreds or thousands of us have the same problem. Disappearing characters! I never thought I would even consider anything but Apple. I’ve been a huge supporter of Apple. However, they have been so disingenuous about this issue that my wife and I are considering switching to Android phones. And! If we do we will likely migrate back to Microsoft supported computers. Oh and by the way! Both of us got new batteries for our Iphone6S and it didn’t help at all. This definitely is not the same Apple Inc. that II so highly respected.

I've been having this same problem for at least a year. I thought it was my 6S, which was having battery problems. I then upgraded to the 8 with max memory thinking that would help - NOPE! Then upgraded to the X & dropped over $1,000 hoping to get this infuriating problem resolved - WISHFUL THINKING! I've combed through all the forums & what's even more frustrating than none of the recommendations I've read working, but that Apple has the audacity to seemingly be unaware of this problem. Given volume of texts I send, this has to be one of the most frustrating things ever & with it going on for so long, I'm stunned there's no fix!!!

This is one of 3 things over the last year that has me re-thinking my 15 year+ loyalty to all things Apple!!!

APPLE - if you read these forums, take action and/or or have a fix to this problem, please share with your development team, engineering, and genius bar personnel, none of which seem to know what the problem is. You're on the verge of losing a client who uses EVERY product.

This just started today for me on my iPhone 8 that is a year old. Never been an issue until this morning. I only have contacts turned on under my iCloud account so that is not the issue. Turned them off and back on but to no avail. Restarted iMessages and the iPhone numerous times. This is infuriating! No update, nothing has changed, but out of the blue I can't send a text message because it deletes everything after the first letter.
