When i go to send a message, the letters are disappearing as i type. For instance, if I’m trying to text my MOTHER, by the time i get to the h, the “mot” has erased, and all of my H contacts are populating! This is super frustrating and i can’t seem to find any info. Anyone?? And sometimes i can’t type more than 2 letters before it happens.
I found a solution that worked. Go to Settings > iCloud > Contacts. Turn off Contacts, keep on your phone, and then turn your Contacts back on and merge. There is clearly a bug on iOS with the Contacts app, where data is erroring out when being loaded into the Messages app. This is why you will see some group text contact photos “flicker” and why when you type a contact while composing a message it also “resets” (errors out). The text “resets” at the same rate as the contact photos flickering. Simply toggling the iCloud > Contacts off/on fixes this.

Doesn’t work for me, I don’t have any iCloud contacts. So I assume the issue must be something to do with contacts, but not iCloud in particular.
Did you sync on computer to iCloud or the computer itself?

Actually. This only worked for a day and then went back...its on and off problem. Very annoying. I have the latest phone with the best plan.
Only thing that worked for me as well.
I figured it out. If you have contacts saved under other email accounts it screws up the phone. Go to settings—accounts and settings, and uncheck “contacts” from every account except for the iCloud account.
I don’t usually bother spending time to write replies to these things. I expect the 800 billion dollar company to exceed expectations with their flagship device/software. But I’m going to say this, because I was really annoyed with it. Apple store looked at me like a deer in the headlights and tech support had no clue... I used the solution presented by mollyd76 (I’m sure others have said the same thing) but if you go to Passwords and Accounts > select your iCloud email account > deselect Contacts.... problem solved. Thanks “Apple”....
I just fixed mine!!!! Found it by trial and error. For iOS 11 & up, this should work. Go to Settings then Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes, App Store then iCloud then Turn off Contacts. When prompted, choose keep on this phone!!! Problem solved!
I had the same issue and was able to resolve it by going into Settings / Passwords & Accounts / iCloud / and turning off the contacts.

Have several accounts on my IPhoneX, turnining off Contacts in ICloud and <keeping on phone> was the only thing that worked for me.
