I’ve been frustrated with the same problem on both an iPhone 7 Plus and the new iPhone X. You’re right that there is surprisingly little information about the issue online. I don’t believe it has anything to do with Kohl’s as I saw the exact same display while browsing a local television news site. In fact, I’ve never been on the Kohl’s site, so again, I don’t believe it has anything to do with them.

I’ve tried a number of approaches, including the ones listed here with no luck. The only thing that has worked is to install a third-party content blocker. I recommend you look into 1Blocker in the App Store or at https://1blocker.com. It has excellent reviews and I’ve used it without incident. I believe they have a free trial, as well. For what it’s worth, I have no connection to this app and there are other alternative products available. I’m just telling you that 1Blocker resolved this problem, at least so far, for me.

A few versions of iOS ago, Apple opened the Safari browser to support content blockers like 1Blocker. It’s unfortunate that such tools are necessary as they add some complications to the system and can, in fact, interfere with some legitimate web site features. Still, the option to have content blocker support in Safari is significant and, especially given this problem, I‘m very glad it’s there.

Good luck!

i am only having the problem on my iPad. Recently returned from an international trip and suspect that I got this adware while using airport or other unprotected WiFi. But, I seem to have been able to get it off Safari. It is only appearing when I use Chrome browser. I deleted Crome and re-installed and it popped back up again. So far it has only come up when accessing newspapers (But from what others have said I am concerned that the problem will spread to other sites). From reviews in the App Store, it appears that 1Blocker and AdBlock only work on Safari, not Chrome? true? What do I do to get rid of it on Chrome beyond deleting Chrome? Thanks!

There’s precious little information about the origin of the problem. Many on this forum have different theories but I’ve yet to see a definitive statement. It seems unlikely to me that it was caused by the Amazon Video app (as others have had sometimes had success by deleting other, seemingly random apps) and I know that it’s not specific to a particular web site. In any case, it’s great that you’ve had a positive result.

Incidentally, you’re right: 1Blocker (and similar tools) is for use with Safari only. That’s because Apple added support for hosting such tools in Safari in iOS 8. To ad block in Chrome for iOS you can instead use a VPN solution which routes your web traffic through a third-party proxy, though that seems less desireable me. Google is, however, adding ad blocking to all its Chrome browsers next month, according to this recent article. Of course, what the article describes is a little different from what 1Blocker offers, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Robert, Thanks for your comments and information about Chrome. I realize now that I “spoke” too soon when I reported success in getting rid of this Adware by deleting the Amazon video app. I enjoyed only one day ad-free and this morning the ad popped back up on my morning paper. Interestingly, once I close the window and re-load the newspaper, it does not pop up again (from experience until the next day’s paper is uploaded). What I’ve found is that if I upload the newspaper via Safari, the ad does not pop up. Since others have reported having the problem mostly on Safari, should I be concerned about the Adware “migrating” to Safari? Should I just put up with this inconvenience until we see if the new version of Chrome fixes the problem? What are others doing? Does Apple have a fix yet? Thanks to all.

I find the same problem when visiting certain websites that use Javascript. See the attached screenshot. It happens in Safari of iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) but not on Mac. I tried all tips posted on this discussion (e.g., clear history and data, uninstall Amazon app, update iOS software, restart device, using different WiFi routers, etc.) but with no success 😟. Will Apple or any one please help?

It is definitely in Safari. Possibly has something to do with JavaScript. I turned it off, and the websites that had the pop up add, are blank. Unless I select read text only. and the websites that the pop up appears, it is when I do a certain up, up, down fast scroll.

how do I delete this Safari app? Can this be deleted and reinstalled app? Even though I did not see it in App Store. I just downloaded another web browser and started using this.

I just use my IPad for basic use, web browsing and no apps. Cause the few I had, I deleted. Changed settings, turned of settings, cleared everything. so I am sure it is coming from Safari.
