congratulations apple user, $1000 amazon gift card popup

Every time I go to certain websites I either get this or some other scam. I highly doubt it’s legit even though it tries to convince you with Facebook posts of people who got theirs (which are probably fake as you can’t click on them) I’ve tried deleting my safari data and turning on pop up blocker to no avail. Anyone else get this?

What it seems to be doing is hijacking JavaScript.

I turned off JavaScript in Safari. In iOS, go to Settings, Safari, scroll to the bottom and select Advanced, then switch off the JavaScript button.

Not only did that make the phishing ad go away, it made all the "Subscribe" popups on news sites go away too.

I have this problem on Safari for "The Weather Channel". I tried the two sugggestions:

1) Settings - Safari - Clear History and Website Data, and

2) Settings - Privacy - Advertising - Reset Advertising Identifier ...

I still get the unwanted pop-up.

The link suggested by rbrylawski on Jan 4, 2018 7:20 AM is general and does not address eliminating this unwanted pop-up.

I never use the "X" out in the pop-up. I always back out by using the Safari multi-window icon and then "X" out the whole Safari window and swipe out of Safari.

Thinking that it may have swiped my bookmark, I even tried entering "The Weather Channel" without using my bookmarks.

I do not have the Amazon app - and the suggestion by one iPhone user to delete the Amazon app would not apply.

Despite all these efforts, the pop-up appears every time I go into the weather channel.

Any help would be appreciated.

Last night as I was ready to close my phone, the ad you showed popped up on my iPhone. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Because the Safari icon was in the upper left corner, I thought this came from Apple. So, I answered all the questions from different web sites. So, these companies have all this information about me. I even entered my pass code, because I thought this was from Apple!!! Is there any way to get all this deleted from these companies? Probably not.

I have yet to see a way to stop this. This clearing your history answer is very weak. Apple needs to get off thier ***** and fix it or I may dump apple and go android.

That's amusing. Apple can't control a popup from a website you visited at some point. And if you think going Android will solve all your problems, we don't actually care, but feel free to do so. Of course the guy in my office with a Samsung S8, who is having pretty much the same issue might argue that doing so won't actually help you very much.

The thing that is most irritating is that you essentially have to close the entire page that it is on. And it hits 5 or 6 minutes into reading an article that has embedded ads.

***Apple, if you are reading these, that’s where and how the pop up occurs. ***

That said, do I get to finish said article? No. I need to close the window and start over. Which deep in my Neanderthal brain makes me want to shut it down and burn safari to the ground.

Yes, I understand what I need to do as a bandaid by cleaning my history and triple checking my OCD brain that pop up blocker is off.

But Apple Safari team, do you know what you need to do for customers?

What’s funny is that this is really targeted around large news sites. I get them from CNN, NYtimes, Huffington, and the worst is probably Buzzfeed. I don’t think I really am experiencing in this anywhere else.
