As a general rule you should never close apps in multitasking unless they are misbehaving. It has no benefit whatsoever; it does not improve battery life (it actually makes it slightly worse), It makes your phone slower, not faster.

Apple needs to admit the issue and at least let us know they are working on it.

What issue? The few who are reporting in this topic seem to be the only ones experiencing the problem. I haven't see it discussed here before. I've never experienced it so it can't be a bug or we all would be experiencing it.

It's more common with browsers on desktop and laptop Macs with the increased use of adware.

As it happens the top adware and malware app for Macs has an app for the iPhone to do the same thing, block adware, etc: Malwarebytes. It's available from the App Store.

Since Only searching in Private I haven’t had a reoccurrence. But really Apple, fix this!

I think that the virus is coming from allrecipes.com because the solutions seem to work until I visit that website. Going to Allrecipes was also able to infect Google chrome on my iphone

IT ISNT A POPUP! It’s a web page that looks like a popup. That’s why popup blockers don’t block it.

Settings/Safari/Advanced/Javascript

Another solution would be to use the google chrome app. It helped us keep from getting pop ups until we figured out the Norton download.

Resetting the advertising identifier need to be the suggested answer. That is what worked for me when the "Clear History and Website Data" solution did no.

Just to clarify, this fake Amazon ad is not a pop up. It is a web page in and of itself. Therefore, just enabling a pop up blocker will do nothing to alleviate this problem.

Yes install and run Wipr from the App Store. That will eliminate the problem.

Which search engine you use won't matter. It's the site you go to that pops up the ad. You will see the same ad at the same site no matter how you go there.

This is happening non-stop for me. I've done all the steps Apple says to do and it still occurs. It happens on very legitimate sites such as leading news sites like NY Times, Washington Post, Fox News, CNN, and everywhere else...

I'm very concerned someone has figured out a way to get a trojan or other piece of malware on the iphone itself, it's just strange this happens on so many sites.

The symptoms for me: I'm reading a page and suddenly I get a full page popup for a free Amazon or Walmart gift card, free iphone, etc... There is no way to go back at that point, the back button is disable and you have to close the browser and go back to the original site you were on.

Pay attention APPLE! Someone has figured out how to hijack the iphone!!!

It’s not java.

it’s javascript.

they are not the same thing.

The issue is related to JavaScript and bad actors in the advertising business.

The website does not screen or create the ads themselves, they just run them or have them supplied by a service.

The only way to stop this is report the issue and stop visiting the sites supplying the ads.
