10.13.2 supplemental update hung?

How would one exit from a hung(?) installation? 10.13.2 supplemental update has been at 75% progress for 10 hours. The MacBook Air fan has been running continuously. Worried about leaving it overnight.

Thank you for your advice! So, here is what I did: I pushed the power button, then I held down the command-r and after a while the recovery panel appeared. But then I thought what if the supplemental update actually installed (and it was just stuck from restarting)? So instead of selecting to re-install the macOS High Sierra I went to the Restart under the Apple menu. And guess what? The progress bar reappeared and the process completed! I checked that the Supplemental Update had installed ... and it did! All is as it should be ... Macs still: 'just work'. Thanks again.

I attempted to use Command + R to enter recovery.

That took me right back to the Apple Logo and a Progress Bar that started at about 90%. Not recovery, as expected.

That would mean that your Mac's Recovery partition is either missing or corrupted. In that case, you would need to use Internet Recovery (option+command+R). However, that version of recovery will only allow you to install the version of macOS that came with your device for the "Re-install" option.

As per Tesserax's experience, I can confirm that this is what my successful updates did. Neither had any external devices connected, aside from display for mini. Not even the bluetooth keyboard or mouse was on. On the 2016, once the update tried to force itself, I forced the 10.13.3 beta on it instead. I've not the time to mess around with an installer that fails or lack of clear instruction from Apple as to the conditions in which this requires for successful installation.

If I reinstall the macOS High Sierra then do I attempt to re-install the 10.13.2 Supplememtal Update again?

Yes, I did exactly the same to get out of the frozen progress for the Supplemental Update ... 1) the cold boot by holding the power button, and then 2) the Restart.

Ok. I understand. My set-up may be simpler. But finally, I was able to install the Supplemental Update successfully.

I run Outlook on the Mac and since the suppliment it crashes. I have now restored my system and will not be using the suppliment until Apple sort this bug out. I am sure I am not the only one!
