HomeKit keeps showing 'Loading Accessories and Scenes'

Help me!

Yesterday i did an update to iOS 11.2.2 and today my HomeKit-app on my iPhone does not start anymore (unknown is these are related). A white screen is displayed saying 'Loading Accessories and Scenes'. The app seems to be stuck on this.

  • The same is the case on my iPad which was not updated to iOS11.2.2 and still has iOS11.2.1.
  • In my AppleTV 4 the HomeKit option is not displayed anymore.

I did the following to try to resolve the issue but without success:

  1. Restart iPhone, iPad and AppleTV
  2. Logged out from iCloud on iPhone, iPad and AppleTV
  3. Disabled and enabled both keychain and Homekit in iCloud settings on iPhone and iPad.
  4. Reset my iPhone by holding powerbutton-homebutten.

No luck so far.... Anyone has a solution?

iPhone SE, iOS 9.3.2, HomeKit

Hi Rob,

My girlfriend had the same problem with her iPhone 8.

Together with Apple Support I've managed to solve the problem. Steps I took:

  1. Backup iPhone to Mac/PC.
  2. Restore as new iPhone.
  3. After restoring, you are forced to sign in to iCloud again, but sign out as soon as you have gone through the setup process.
  4. Open Home while you are no longer signed in to any iCloud account. Home should open normally again.
  5. Restore the iPhone with the backup you just made and all should be okay 🙂.

Hope this works for some of you out there too!

Cheers,

Menno

I think I know why this is happening but not the overarching solution. When I had everything set up with multiple items, everything worked fine. As soon as I got my wife’s phone added using the invite method, all of my gadgets stopped being visible on MY iPad/iPhone and I had the “loading accessories and scenes“ white screen of death on MY iPad and MY iPhone. Her phone still shows everything just fine. Something to consider. Hopefully they will update the software/app to allow multiple users on the same account. Cheers.

Hi Daniel,

Can you please share your HomeKit setup? Do you have any Philips Hue devices connected? If yes... by any chance any Hue Motion Sensors connected to HomeKit?

I am in contact with Philips Hue to try to understand what is happening and if it is maybe related to Hue products... Nevertheless, I think Apple should also solve things to be sure that corruption of HomeKit-data may never happen.

Thanks!

Experienced the same problem today. I don’t know if it is a coincidence but it happens after removing HomePod from my home. Apple, the reset solution is unacceptable! I have about 50 devices and I am not going to spend half a day setting everything back up. Plus, as an IOT software engineer working with HomeKit products on a daily basis, I know the issue has been around for more than a year now! This is ridiculous...FIX THE BUGS (like you like to shout out at every WWDC...why don’t you lead by example???)

Grrr.... After not using HomeKit for a few months, i gave it another try last night. I have installed iOS 11.4 and thought that maybe the problem is resolved...

Dahm i was wrong... After spending again a few hours in setting up all my Philips Hue Lights, sensors and switches and created some nice scenes, the f***ing HomeKit White screen of death appeared again and my whole HomeKit config is gone. White screen with Loading Accessories and Scenes.... Shows.... Forever...

HELLO APPLE!!! Why is this problem there for more than a year! I have bought a lot of HomeKit devices and they are worthless as HomeKit is not working.

Please! Do something about it! 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

Hi Roger (from Nashville) 😁

Can i ask if you, by any change, als have connected Philips Hue lights to HomeKit? And do you want to share your configuration with me (and Apple)? E.g. If you use Hue, how many lights do you have? Any motion sensors? Dimmer Switches? Just good to have this information so Apple knows the area to look for.

Thanks,

Rob (from the Netherlands)

No problem Pottsy66! :-) Happy that you shared your configuration. Would be nice if everybody who has problems with HomeKit shares their configuration. Especially when Philips Hue devices are connected to HomeKit.

So.... everybody: Please share your HomeKit configuration when you have problems with HomeKit resulting in the White-Screen-of-Death. Is Philips Hue paired with HomeKit? How does your HomeKit-config look like? (I.e. now many lights, now many Motion Sensors, any Dimmer switches?)

Thanks all! Let's try to guide Apple in resolving this issue.

I don't think Apple reads this stuff. Its just for us to feel better.

I too get the "updating" in HomeKit and using the devices in the HomeKit app is useless. It is mainly Philips Hue that does this "updating" I do not use the Hue app or any app other than HomeKit to control my devices.

I have:

4 coloured Hue lights

5 white Hue lights

1 Vocolinc light strip

1 ihome smart plug

1 Fibarro motion sensor

1 Philips Hue motion sensor

1 Elgato eve motion sensor

1 LogiCircle camera acting as a motion sensor as well
