iMac Pro restarting because of a problem?

iMac Pro intially booted as a Mac Pro backup, then reverted and reinstalled fresh High Sierra because of some compatibility issues, now getting forced restarts with this error code, thank you for any help!

I was getting kernel panics, mostly while using Premiere/After Effects, also my wifi would sometimes freak out.

Took to apple care, they replaced the logic board, didn't help. After chatting with Apple support technicians and giving them all kinds of logs from the computer, they said it was related to the software on the computer not being able to contact a server and freaking out, making it kernel panic and restart.

I have little snitch installed on my computer to monitor internet traffic, I uninstalled it and changed over to the open source software Lulu instead and it completely fixed my problem. The computer has not had a single kernel panic in over a week, it used to have a panic 2-3 times per day while doing video editing.

Other things that helped reduce panics before I got to this solution:

Disconnected a USB-C iMac Pro Hub

Turned off Filevault

Turned off power saving features

I disabled all of the except the first one which prevents the computer from automatically sleeping when the screen is off.

So, the computer hasn't restarted on its own when sleeping since Wednesday. While exporting 4K video with the Apple Care representative watching worked, today I exported a new 4K video and it restarted again. So these settings only fix the sleep issue.

Okay, well that's kind of what I was wondering myself, but then how can I explain that the machine both restarted automatically and did not log me in? In sys prefs I have it set NOT to restart and in addition to log me in AUTOMATICALLY.

On the other hand, is this exactly what others are experiencing?

By that, I mean if I were to unplug the 120 volt power to the machine, then plug it back in, it would not automatically restart. Also, if I do power down manually, then reboot, I am automatically logged in.

I suppose I can agree with your conclusion if I accept that seeing the login screen is part of the Random Restart is part of the dysfunction. I certainly can understand your point. I just seem to remember that when I was experiencing the RR's months ago, the machine would shut down, but it would not restart. Now I'm wondering if there are two distinct issues going on here, or more likely I'm now just experiencing what everyone else is for the first time. I dread it's the latter. Would you agree, even given my prefs settings?

Been about a week now, after having nightly RR's on a regular basis, then switching my two USB-Dongle-Thunderbolt dongles (presumably back their previous ports before I had unplugged them all) and still now not having ANY RR's.

Truth is stranger than fiction, but just mentioning this on the odd chance it might work for someone else.

The two ports in question are labeled #5 and #6. They are two of the USBc iMac Pro ports to which I have connected Thunderbolt dongles going to my external TM hard drive and external backup drive. Everything runs 24/7.

I just today labeled the ports (kind of a mess job, I admit, but no one sees it) and their associated cables so that I never get them out of working order ever again.

Again, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why my solution is working for me, but conceptually can imagine that within the deep workings of the low-level code there are certainly hardcoded ID's for each port, and for each peripheral and somehow everything is back to being stable without any RR's. Maybe just luck? Hard to imagine.

Very interesting, somewhat similar to my postings and photo a few weeks back re swapping out my USB ports.

In either or both of our scenarios however, I'd lay odds that the general ongoing Random Restart issue is probably unrelated to your specific, and my specific hardware coincidences. Nonetheless, this could be a clue and we much appreciate the update and something for us all to keep in mind.

Of course the worst place to be, is stuck with two entirely unrelated issues occurring simultaneously but you don't or are unaware that's the case.

I have finally, after numerous troubleshooting experiences, resolved to take exacting step-by-stop notes on anything and everything that I change, add, delete, configure, with dates and times as a log to refer back to. It's well worth it in the end for that one time you look back and have that "ah-ha" moment you otherwise would never have remembered. So I'm all for keeping handwritten or computer logs. Just a thought, as your journey proceeds.

Try simply a new "cable" and see what happens. Over time corrosion, entropy, dust, rust, eventually get the best of us.

Hey there, sorry to hear about the trouble, it's frustrating most of all because Apple won't say or commit to anything. They've told me it's a hardware problem and replaced the Mac and the problem re-occurs, so at this unless they admit to a serious production problem it's more likely to be software.

I'd try the following;

1) Run diagnostics (How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac - Apple Support), and if it passes it should give you a level of comfort that it's not your unit, and

2) I can't find it here but someone had said to turn off the Secure Boot feature (About Secure Boot - Apple Support), not counting my chickens yet, but no restarts after 5 days so far. Before that I'd gone almost three weeks between restarts so can't confirm this is a fix yet.

Hey Sean, run the hardware diagnostics if you want some peace of mind but I'm on my third iMac Pro (2nd replacement) and same problem. So if it's a hardware problem it's pervasive.

I opted to stick with the IMPRO because it works great as long as it doesn't go into low power mode and am hoping Apple will release either a software or hardware fix but getting somewhat frustrated by their lack of any communication. Even a "we're working on it" would make me feel better.

Wow. Sorry to hear then, after having installed the Security Update, that you're still having issues.

Like I said, I did a total uninstall of Sophos and Code42, AND, also then installed the Security Update, so technically this was not the perfect placebo, double-blind, randomized, clinical study, as I changed more than just one thing.

I'm in the habit not of taking copious "notes" each step along the way during any serious troubleshooting process.

I know better than to make "one" change at a time, but, at the time, after having uninstalled Sophos and Code42 I thought I was home free. All good for 3 days straight, then the crash. So, then I installed the Security Update. Been about 3 weeks now I think with no issues at all.

In retrospect, I may have had several things going on at the same time, or, as you allude to, certain background or intensive processes may have only been the catalyst to a much deeper problem.

In answer to your question, I'm not experiencing ANY crashes at the moment. Have nor reinstalled either Sophos or Code42, and no crashes. BUT when I was experiencing the freeze/crash/restarts that we all see to be, I was not doing anything in particular or focused on any particular foreground application. It was TOTALLY RANDOM.

Please keep us updated as to your progress.

You ran Apple Diagnostics on your iMac Pro already, right?

Glad to hear from INvisibleART that things are looking up in Mojave (which I have not installed yet).

On a slightly different topic, I had a Mac Pro which was running fine in Sierra. Tried upgrading it from Sierra to High Sierra and it blew up. Had to downgrade it back to basically just a "dumb" terminal running the old Sierra. Because of this, I would have purchased a new Mac Pro but it really would not be radically "new." So, instead I opened temporarily for a new iMac Pro instead.

My problem seems to be that I had two RAID hard drives daisy chained through thunderbolt...so now they are plugged in separately into the iMac Pro ...one drive is a thunderbolt 2 drive with a thunderbolt 2 to 3 adaptor.....seems to have ended the panics for me so far.

I've got four monitors plugged into the Thuderbolt ports.. Unplugging them seems to make a difference (no panics). I'm going to run some more experiments and see.

So a common theme here might be related to Thunderbolt?

I am having the exact same kernel panic problem with my iMac Pro with a 10 Core 64GB RAM 2TB HD and Pro Vega 64 running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.2. I've unplugged all peripherals from the computer and still experiencing the crash. Each time the error log states the same {"caused_by":"macos","macos_system_state":"running","bug_type":"210","os_versio n":"Bridge OS 2.0.

At this point, I can only assume this has to be fixed with a future update to MacOS as I feel it's a bug. I've yet to try wiping my computer and starting over from scratch. Hopefully, a solution to the problem will be released soon!

This is the same setup I have, and the same error message.

I've got an appointment with Apple store 1/20 where I'll bring the machine in and they run diagnostics.

Apple telephone engineers are leaning towards a hardware problem, but only based on the fact that I uninstalled and reinstalled the OS. To my mind this doesn't narrow it down to a hardware only issue. I'm also hoping that a software fix in the future will fix this.

Will report back either way...

Apple loves to design pencil leg pants with no pockets so it only looks good in the publicity shots.

The reality looks a whole lot daggier when people face the reality of getting on in the real world.

The Trashintosh being a real case in point. Its shiny chrominess only ends up reflecting and emphasising the mess of attachments hanging off its arse like a gastric explosion in a spaghetti joint.

I know it was happening before I had all the adapters and peripherals plugged in but just for reference here's my list of external devices attached to the iMac Pro:

-Logitech USB -> USB-C (apple adapter) webcam

-Universal Audio Apollo Twin Thunderbolt 2 -> USB-C (apple adapter) audio interface for system input and output sound

-Lacie 6TB Drive Thunderbolt 2 -> USB-C (apple adapter)

all of these devices were working with the Mac Pro that this computer replaced, hence the dongles for now.

Newest addition plugged into the iMac was a display, which the problem was happening before as well

-ASUS 34" Ultrawide 4K display USB-C -> DisplayPort (apple)
