iMac Pro restarting because of a problem?

iMac Pro intially booted as a Mac Pro backup, then reverted and reinstalled fresh High Sierra because of some compatibility issues, now getting forced restarts with this error code, thank you for any help!

I was getting kernel panics, mostly while using Premiere/After Effects, also my wifi would sometimes freak out.

Took to apple care, they replaced the logic board, didn't help. After chatting with Apple support technicians and giving them all kinds of logs from the computer, they said it was related to the software on the computer not being able to contact a server and freaking out, making it kernel panic and restart.

I have little snitch installed on my computer to monitor internet traffic, I uninstalled it and changed over to the open source software Lulu instead and it completely fixed my problem. The computer has not had a single kernel panic in over a week, it used to have a panic 2-3 times per day while doing video editing.

Other things that helped reduce panics before I got to this solution:

Disconnected a USB-C iMac Pro Hub

Turned off Filevault

Turned off power saving features

I posted before it showed me the entire thread of this conversation. I checked my Energy Saver settings, and I did not have "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" checked.

I've since checked that as well as unchecked Enable Power Nap, and haven't had an issue since. I'll report back if that changes, but the display has powered off a couple of times since then (I have mine set to power off after 1 hour).

I had a persistent restart & frozen screen, sometimes several times a day. I thought I had this problem before connecting a second monitor, Dell 2711 using TB3 to Display. So I left it connected. Then one day out of frustration I decided to disconnected it just in case.

That was weeks ago & I no longer have any problems.

I tested this by reconnecting the Dell and it did the restart.

I am assuming it is the 8 year old Dell monitor but I guess it could be a bad port or cable.

I am looking for a second monitor now?

Given that the crash mentions "BridgeOS", I wonder whether this might be a bug related to the new Secure Boot features, and whether turning it off might help?

as of now, its been diagnosed with a bad logic board and possible bad buses... in for repair. fingers crossed that this solves the problem.

Hey Sean, run the hardware diagnostics if you want some peace of mind but I'm on my third iMac Pro (2nd replacement) and same problem. So if it's a hardware problem it's pervasive.

I opted to stick with the IMPRO because it works great as long as it doesn't go into low power mode and am hoping Apple will release either a software or hardware fix but getting somewhat frustrated by their lack of any communication. Even a "we're working on it" would make me feel better.

I think this 'video card is the problem' could be a red herring. None of the log files in this and other threads suggest a video issue that I can see - but rather issues related to stalled / deadlocked processors / threads and issues with a processor's translation look aside buffer (TLB) - which could be any process / driver / extension?

My past experience with Apple support is that even going up 3 levels of engineer still does not get you someone who understands hardware and OS issues deeply enough to diagnose the types of things reported in these logs.

So, I think we just need to hold off on speculation (mine included!) and simply accepting one support guy's "graphics problem" statement and instead keep sending Apple crash/panic logs so that they have lots of data to help them track this down.

I received word today from a Senior Advisor I've been working with regarding this issue. He stated that Apple engineers are aware of the issue, and that it is related to the T2 chip / Bridge OS. He said they do not have a fix at this time (obviously), but are aware and working on it. I guess now we all play the waiting game...

Been about a week now, after having nightly RR's on a regular basis, then switching my two USB-Dongle-Thunderbolt dongles (presumably back their previous ports before I had unplugged them all) and still now not having ANY RR's.

Truth is stranger than fiction, but just mentioning this on the odd chance it might work for someone else.

The two ports in question are labeled #5 and #6. They are two of the USBc iMac Pro ports to which I have connected Thunderbolt dongles going to my external TM hard drive and external backup drive. Everything runs 24/7.

I just today labeled the ports (kind of a mess job, I admit, but no one sees it) and their associated cables so that I never get them out of working order ever again.

Again, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why my solution is working for me, but conceptually can imagine that within the deep workings of the low-level code there are certainly hardcoded ID's for each port, and for each peripheral and somehow everything is back to being stable without any RR's. Maybe just luck? Hard to imagine.

Nick, Had the same thing happen to me about 6 months ago. What a nightmare. After working on the Mac Pro, along with Apple tech support, gave up. When I ran upgrade (I guess it was High Sierra) of course my internal SSD got reformatted to the new APFS. It took hours. Anyway, when I did the reboot the machine just went totally out of control. The display was flickering with some apps that were trying to load, the mouse was unresponsive, it was just insane. In the end, after trying everything under the sun, somehow I was able to clone back the old OS which was using the old HFS+ format and not wanting to play this game any longer decided to buy a new iMac Pro which I've been running ever since. Just the old MP basically as a glorified TV to display stock quotes, etc. What a waste. Jeeze.

At one point I was experiencing the random restarts on my brand new $5,000.00 iMac Pro! Somehow, purely by accident, I switched two of the USB plugs which were connected to external thunderbolt hard drives and the problem went away. Been okay ever since.

But believe me I feel your pain. Don't know what to say. Wish I had some wisdom to share, but hang in there and you will eventually prevail.

I have not had another panic since I ran the diagnostics on my iMac Pro. I have not been using any Thunderbolt devices at all as I have a NAS and the only thing I have plugged in at this point is just a CAT 6 cable. So far so good. Hopefully, you get your issues resolved soon by the Apple Engineer. If I experience another kernel panic I'll come back and post here.

Well, I hope for your sake that you are on to something.

In my case, I could have sworn the culprit was either Sophos or Code42 (Malware & Remote backup apps) running in the background, as, when I totally uninstalled both of these I had no more freeze/crashes, for . . . 2 days anyway. Although I did notice a slight uptick in performance, I now realize these apps were not (at least totally) responsible for all of the bug issues we are having on our iMac Pros.

The ONE thing that does seem to have worked, in my case, now going on three weeks I think, is installation of the very most recent (released a few weeks ago) 10.13.4 "Security Update" from Apple. I've got my fingers crossed.

Eventually, I'll reinstall, one at a time the Sophos app and the Code42 app to "prove" what's really going on.

Hang in there, and please keep the feedback coming. We're all in the same boat. Still could be a hardware/firmware/Software issue. Who knows.

ARE YOU RUNNING BUILD 17E202 or something else? I remember a while back there were "special" builds just for iMac Pros. This may be one of them, that works!
