nike run club app gps not showing map after ios update

Hi,

I have the Nike run club app on my iphone 5s and since updating to iOS11.2.2 on the weekend, my Apple watch Nike run club app is not showing the map of my run. No settings have changed on the phone or watch since the update, and the day before the update it was working correctly. It's as if the GPS link/pairing between the phone and watch is somehow not syncing. I only take the watch on the run and not the phone.

iPhone5s - iOS11.2.2, Apple Watch 3 - WatchOS4.2, Nike run club app 5.11.2

I've done the usual: toggle location services on and off, turn the phone on and off, turn the watch on and off, and check that all location services and tracking are still on.

Thanks.

iPhone 5s, iOS 11.2.2

I sent mine in for repair and they weren’t able to duplicate the issue. I tried to find out if they actually took it for a run, but the advisor couldn’t confirm that. Anyway they sent it back to me yesterday and I haven't tested it yet.

I've had the issues for 4 months now and I've done all the updates that come out for phone, watch, and nike app. It's strange. It's also glitch in that it doesn't always fail to map, just most of the time.

My watch has been reset to factory (not restored from backup) so maybe that will help. I'll update once I've had a day to go for a run.

In the end mine just starting working again. It took about half a dozen power off/on cycles for both watch and phone, along with a similar number of location services off/on. And then it started working again.

That’s the frustrating bit, because I still don’t really know what caused the problem - working one day, not the next, then working again.

Just got my new Nike+ Apple Watch series 3 GPS only and frustrated that the NRC app isn't capturing my routes, just shows the pace circle screen. Will try the apple app tomorrow to see if that captures it. Wish I knew what to do to get this working. Upgrade my S0 Apple watch because of the GPS built in, but it's not doing me any good right now.

Well I tested mine again and it worked for a week (this is after the apple support team had it in and tested it). Then I had to pair it with an old phone and I tried it again and the maps failed to work again. So the app location map has failed on two different phones now. Apple thought it was the phone’s fault most likely but now that it’s failed on two phones I’m guessing it’s the app or the watch.

I’m going to reopen my case with Apple and try it all again.

Hi!

I had the same problem too. I contacted Nike plus via Twitter and gained the following advice. Sign out of your Nike plus app. Unpair your watch from your phone. Switch off both devices and then switch back on. Pair watch back with phone. Log back in to Nike plus app. Worked for me. Now all my runs appear with the map.

I’m on holiday in Japan and my AW3 Nike+ failed to map my run today. This was my last chance to run at Tsukiji market before it relocates in Oct and I’m leaving Japan later today. Totally disappointed. AW3 and NRC are not reliable as i used to believe. Tbh, I’m seriously considering switching back to Garmin for my first overseas half marathon next month :(

OK THEN. After about 12 days of digging and trying I think I figured it out, at least for me.

I was having the same problems, went through all the steps, uninstalled/installed, buttons on, buttons off.

Test after test, still just got the pace circle. No map. Highly frustrating.

Turns out, and I just confirmed it works today, I was taking off on my runs BEFORE the gps locked on to my watch.

With my old Garmin watch, you couldn't start UNTIL you had a GPS lock. With the AW3, you hit that 'Start' on the watch thinking you're good to go, but you're not connected. Wait until you see 'Run' in the top left of the 'Start' screen.

Or wait about 15-20 seconds. Hopefully they come out with a GPS lock indicator on the watch face itself. I think the 'Run' might be the indicator. I don't know, but gloriously, I got my maps back today. Just wait before you actually take off, you should get your maps back.

What a pain, but glad it's back up.

I'm guessing the 'Run' isn't a GPS lock indicator then. I tried mine out over the weekend and at lunch during work today and am mapping no problem now. What I'm making sure of doing is giving the watch enough time (so far so lucky), to get the GPS lock. I recall my Garmin watch sometimes took over a minute before getting a lock. I'd also only open the app until you're out of phone's reach. Trying waiting a little longer next time and then just do a 10 second walk. Check to see if it's mapping. Once you're connected, you can start over immediately and go. (also tested that at lunch today too).

But I also just found out the Nike+ run data is no longer accessible on any Nike website---all your history will be App-only stored. Guy at Nike just told me that today, and that there are no plans of putting a web version back out there. Which I think is fairly lame, due to the screen size limitations of the phones. I liked the website view--easier to see routes etc. So might start browsing around at different apps--though I read a pretty legit review that the nike app is the best out there---and that apple one could #1, but its limitation was no website interface for all the good detail logs. Looks like Nike took the same cue now. why.

OS Status: WatchOS 4.3.1 - Apple Watch 3

iOS 11.4 - IPhone X

I too have been experiencing the same issue as stipulated by many in this thread (Nike+ not documenting GPS map route). I employed numerous methodologies proposed by a great many contributors noted above; however with no success.

I have however achieved SUCCESS by doing the following:

1. Turn Off power to both iPhone and Apple Watch.

2. Turn On iPhone followed by the Apple Watch.

3. Activate Nike+ app on Apple Watch to verify iPhone connectivity (make sure access to Start interface is achieved).

4. Initiate Run.

Following the aforementioned steps should translate in capturing a GPS route.

I surmise the iPhone and Apple Watch becomes unsynced with normal daily wear and use. Executing the steps above before a run reestablishes proper connectivity, thus capturing GPS data.
