iphone x & tesla bluetooth issues

my iphone x is paired with my Tesla model S (2016 model).

Music plays just fine and I can hear my calls perfectly fine but people complain that I sound distorted when I am speaking via bluetooth in the car. Both while the car is stationary and moving.

I have now tried calls in the same car with:

iPhone 7S Plus : works great

Pixel 2 XL : works great

my new beloved iPhone X: does not work - everyone complains of distorted sounding speech

I got a new iPhone because the old one had some issues from the apple store: this one also has the same distortion problem on talking into the car bluetooth

To be doubly sure, I tried pairing the same set of phones with a loaner tesla and can confirm that the problem only exists with the iPhone X.

I've been trying my best to debug this and provide some helpful data for a fix.

Can someone from apple please advice that you are aware of this issue and there will be a software fix for this issue at some point?

Thanks,

Kiran

I found the issue. Apparently, if I have my Apple Watch connected to my iPhone X and make or receive a call, my voice sounds robotic to the listener on the other end in my Tesla X - their voice sounds fine. BUT, if I put my Apple Watch in Airplane mode, then the call sounds fine on their end as well. There is something up with the iPhone and Apple Watch that interferes with my Tesla Bluetooth call quality. I am not sure if this is an iPhone X specific issue, or this also happens with an iPhone 7 connected to the Apple Watch.

Apple should look into this issue and try and solve it.

Just picked up 2018 Model S last week - once in awhile people can hear me but 3/4 of the time they say I sound robotic, distorted or I am under water.

No apple watch

iPhone 6s

no problems with my 2013 model S when I had it; or any other vehicle.

doing iPhone update today (yes I am lazy with that)

I am calling this a Tesla problem - completely unusable

I’ve had the same problems described throughout this thread.

I have 2 x 2018 Tesla’, 2 x iPhone X, two Apple Watch Series 3, & two sets of AirPods.

The problem (robotic voice on Tesla Bluetooth) arises after using the AirPods with the iPhone X.

The easiest solution I have found is to end the call and go into Settings, General, Reset, select Reset Network Settings. As soon as this is done the Bluetooth voice quality in the Tesla returns to perfect for the next call onwards until I use the AirPods again. The other side effect is that my home WiFi network is lost and has to be re-added when returning to the home network.

This appears to be a problem with how the iPhone X handles Bluetooth after being used with AirPods.

Just adding in my 0.02. I have iPhone X and 2017 Model S. Same issue as described by others. To date, when people complain, I have rebooted iPhone X and then called them back. On "rebooted call" I am told the robot voice has gone away. Works, but that is insane, and at what point does the robot voice return? I also have both AirPods and an Apple Watch. I will try the Watch-to-airplane-mode next time someone points out robot voice. Either way, Apple, please prioritize and fix this. Insane that two pricey 2017 high tech endpoints are having this issue.

Exact same issue but on a Jaguar F-Pace. As soon as I put my Apple Watch into airplane mode the robotic voice goes away. Since some of you have had the same issue with AirPods I suspect that this is an incompatability, or interference, between the iPhone X, other Apple devices connected to it via Bluetooth, and the Bluetooth systems installed in certain cars.
