I had an issue with a month old iPhone X. Initial discussion in an iPhone Store told me that water damage was not covered. I pointed out that it was specified as IP67 so should be good for immersion. I was then told to contact customer services which I did. Stating that the specification was on the apple website. I was asked to send in images of the device for evaluation by the engineers by a senior customer services representative. Five days later they have agreed to replace/repair the device.

I am fed up of repeating myself so this is my last post, it was 2 months old and I took a 1 minute phone call in light rain, end of. Whatever their wording that is not acceptable.

Good luck with that. I don't always agree with how Apple handles warranty claims - especially regarding the Magnuson-Moss Act. However, their disclaimers on IP67 water/dust resistance are bulletproof. Everything they say about it makes it clear that the user gets an iPhone at their own peril.

Hey man. Same thing happened to me over the weekend and it does suck that I wound up getting water on my iphone (dropped in pool) and now my FaceID and camera is all jacked up.

FORTUNATLY I was able to add on the mobile insurance (from my carrier) and although I will have a hefty deductible, I don't have to buy a whole new iPhone.

Really wish Apple was better about this stuff but this may be the way that they can get better. Seeing more people move toward a truly water proof device.

So my recommendation would be to contact your provider and get that added on ASAP. (they allowed me to do so 5 months after purchasing the device).

Hope this helps y'all!

To quote Apple:

Your iPhone is splash, water, and dust resistant and was tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions, and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Liquid damage is not covered under warranty.

About splash, water, and dust resistance of iPhone 7 and later

Note you will find much the same disclaimer in Samsung's warranty for their waterproof phones.

I got problem with the face id & apple support told me because of water demage, i actually realized that samsung note 8 is better quality than Iphone X, because Note 8 has been proven it’s really water resist.

Unfortunately, as a apple loyal user, i very very dissapointed and regret that i spend for such an low quality product without any peace of mind warranty

But it is advertised as being able to withstand rain and even “immesion” (lol @ u) under very shallow water for up to 30 minutes. U dont get the IP67 rating if its not somewhat water-resistant.

Ive dropped my iphone x in the water. And it still seems to be working fine. I dropped it in the toilet (lol @ me) so i then had to wash it under the sink for 30 seconds max. I also regularly take my phone in the steaming hot shower for no longer than 30 minutes. But mine is working ok.

Clearly Apple cannot figure out who really did not SUBMERGE their phone beyond the allowable limits of an IP67 rating, but the original poster claims that it got hit with a few drops of rain. He could be lying. And by taking the phone apart, a trained technician should be able to tell, granted the adhesive they can ALSO be inspected. But i doubt they can check the adhesive. So in short, they can’t really tell what the real problem was. Was it the customer? Or the adhesive?

If it was the adhesive , the Law requires apple to stand by their claims under their own warranty. Since it is clearly poor craftsmanship. And the guy was sold a bunk phone.

If the adhesive was fully intact, and i don’t think there is a way to really check that (at a store level anyway).....then clearly the guy needs to pay up for a new phone. He submerged it beyond the stated IP67 limits to allow water to seep through the cracks of the adhesive.

In any case, advertising that its IP67 water resistant and then turning around and saying you can’t warranty water damage should not be able to hold weight. If they want to advertise it, they should put their money where their mouth is.

I feel a class action law suit coming on. This is their “gorilla glass” con job all over again.

My next phone will be a Samsung. But i do wonder WWSD...

No, I can't delete your comments only the moderators can do that. I didn't even report your comments as I found them very amusing on a day when I badly need some amusement. And since I didn't delete them I'm guessing no one can clearly see what I'm doing.

There are lots of other sites out there where you can post your thoughts and rants. You failed to read the Terms of Use you agreed to when you signed on here. When you join somewhere else be sure not to make that mistake twice before you agree to something. And in case you haven't noticed you can still get the Infowars app in the App Store. But considering he operates an entertainment site not a new site (his words not mine) that isn't exactly the example I'd use if you think you are speaking the truth.

Same problem, my IphoneX randomly appeared with a green line down the screen, took it back to place I purchased it and was first accused of having dropped it (I hadn't) and then I paid $85 to send it away to be checked for replacement or repair. I have now been told my phone has water damage! I have never had the phone in a pool, in a shower, or had anything spill on it. How can my 4month old Iphone X which supposedly has an IP67 rating have water damage!? Tried to argue the point and I'm just told it's not covered by warranty, absolutely ****** off. They want to charge me $900 for repair!!!

I bought the iPhone X also within the first month of owning it, I had a water damage issue! I was washing my hands in the sink and my phone fell in and got splashed on it immediately stopped working within 12 hours.

I want to the Apple store and they said they would not replace it because it was submerged after speaking to a manager and telling them it was not submerged in explaining that their website sells the phone as IP 67 scenic can go underwater 5 ft for 30 minutes! They tried telling me that was not the case and it’s only to be splashed upon which I stated is exactly what happened and it still didn’t work they did hook me up and replace the phone as a one time deal I would recommend that Apple get their stuff straight! My only other issues that I’ve noticed everybody’s rear camera flash lens seems to crack!
