After each download in Safari I get this compass which is blocking part of the window view. I could do without it as it's useless and bothering. Any way to avoid this download compass without reloading Safari?

Here we are: if in Preferences/Files Download Location I select anything but Download, I get the Compass. No Compass if the Download Folder is selected as the File "drops" is the Downloads in the Dock.

I have set in the Safari Preferences, to download "ask for each download": then downloaded a file to Documents. And with the Downloads in the Dock, it went to the Documents, without the "safari compass" coming on.
(restart Safari after changing the settings).
The same when I set "other" to"Documents" (as longs as the downloads folder is in the Dock), the file came in Documents of course.
I must say, that with me the "safari compass" did not always come up, only when I was working with torrents.
Please try these resets if you have not already.
1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761
2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.

3. Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
Once in Safe Mode, click the “Restart” button at the bottom.
4. Delete com.apple.Safari.plist file and test.
Empty the Trash.
Quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" from the drop down.
Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".
Close the Finder window.
Restart and relaunch Safari.
If this doesn’t help, “Put Back” the com.apple.Safari.plist
Right click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.
Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.
This issue is not unique: it has something to do with Torrents and torrent apps. If you stop using that, and then restart Safari, the issue will stay away...
Did you try the NVRAM reset?
Shut down computer and hold the Option(Alt), Command, P and R keys. While holding those keys power on the computer and keep holding the keys until you hear the startup chime twice, then let go of the keys. You may have to try 2 to 3 times.
OK, it works ... provided in Preference the selected File Download Location is "Download" and not "Documents" or "Ask for each Download".
So, it's only half convenient as you then have to move the file to the desired folder.
So I had this again the last two days. About an hour ago there was an update of Flashplayer (NPAPI Plug-in version 28.0.0.161) and the issue is gone again !!!
OK: the real solution:
Put the downloads folder in the Dock (where it standard is).
As soon as something is downloaded, the "download compass" comes up and moves into the downloads folder ! Then when the download is finished, the "download compass" vanishes!

NVRAM reset: some say even wait till you have heard the startup sound for the third time (takes a bit longer), in the threads where this issue is discussed (Courcoul).

Besides, when the compass is set on a link you can't open it any more! I really have no idea why they have this stupid thing.
Wrote to Apple Feedback. Meanwhile I'll just revert using FF.

I have the Downloads folder in the dock. I just downloadeda document attached to an e-mail and dropped in a Folder in Documents. And the Compass came back on the screen!
I have not used torrents lately, even with the download folder set to Downloads and after removing the Downloads folder from the Dock I did not see the compass image again. It exists only in Safari, and I use Safari almost exclusively.
When I get a file sent by email, it is downloaded in the email, and I save it to the downloads (or another folder).
Wen I get a download link I download by clicking the link. No issues sofar but the issue may be caused by something on the download site !
Yes, that was the solution, but now I am not so sure about it anymore since I do not ever have the Compass, with any settings and without the downloads folder in the Dock. It has probably to do with Safari's sandbox and the security test on the download, and may be even with from where the download comes....
