I saw lots of posts about the AOC external monitor not working. I had to tinker with it a bit and I finally figured it out.

1. Download the latest driver from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?id=1085

2. Ensure that you download the driver for your specific operating system.

3. Restart your computer.

4. After installation, macOS may require the DisplayLink system extension to be enabled in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General. Click on Allow and restart the system.

5. Your external monitor should work.

I just bought an AOC Q2778VQE monitor that is supposed to display 1440p, but I cannot get it above 1080p. I am using an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable. external monitor hookup: need help I tried to do Choose Apple menu  > About This Mac, click Support, then click Specifications to find out what, if any, support my model macair supports for external monitors...got a double redirect error. Help?
