Why has a VPN connection suddenly appeared on my iPad. I did not set up for a VPN?

Yes I recently added an ad blocker.....that must be it. Thanks so much. I’ll check out the app.

These mobile ad blocker work by passing everything through their own servers using VPN and blocking suspected ad content.
I use Adblock Mobile on my iPads and my iPhone. I try to manually turn off VPN and within seconds it's back on again. The only way to turn it off is to go the the app itself. With Adblock Mobile it's the settings by tapping on the little i with circle around it. One of the setting further down is to turn it on or off. Once it's off the VPN box at the top of my screen goes away. Once it's off, enable is right on the starting screen, because I suppose they would like it to be used.
I sometimes end up turning it off because I can't get something to work, like video from the ESPN app. There doesn't seem to be any way to "whitelist" specific sources.
There are some utility apps like ad blockers that only work through VPN. Can you think of any app that you might have installed that might possibly need to work through VPN?

Go to settings down to vpn turn this off.

I tried this but after a few seconds ....the setting returns to “on.”
