There are a lot of people around the world with this problem but not all connect to Apple USA to report battery drain issues after the update—I know of people in USA and in India who are having this problem right after the update but don’t bother to report it because not everyone has the time for it

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that since updating to iOS 11.2.5 you're having trouble with your battery draining faster than normal. I know how important it is for your device to stay charged properly, I'd like to help. First I'd recommend reviewing the information here regarding iPhone Battery and Performance
Next, you can use these steps to see how your battery is being consumed as well as Settings you can change to get the most from your battery:
About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touchCheck battery usage
Go to Settings > Battery.
To see how long each app has been open and running in the background, tap . Under each app, you might see these usage types:
- Background Activity means that your battery is used while apps run in the background.
- Audio means that apps play audio while running in the background.
- No Cell Coverage and Low Signal means that your device is searching for a signal or being used with a low signal.
- Backup & Restore indicates that your device has been backing up to iCloud or restoring from an iCloud backup.
- Location and Background Location means that your battery was used when tracking your device.
Adjust settings to improve battery life
While viewing your battery usage, you might get a suggestion like Enable Auto-Brightness or Adjust Display Brightness. This is because iOS determined that changing these settings could improve your battery life. You can also see the usage times since the last full charge.

Define "a lot". Yes, there are probably hundreds. Roughly 500,000,000 have updated to 11.2.5. But when there is a real problem people find the time to ask for help. As I mentioned in another post, there were 13,000 who posted in only one thread 5 years ago for a real issue that affected about 5 million phones out of the 100 million in use back then. There are always posts about battery issues after any iOS update. With iOS 11 there have been far fewer than with many other recent updates.
As I posted to carrasco.de, battery life changes are a symptom, not a disease. Like a fever; there are thousands of medication conditions that manifest as a fever. And there are as many possible causes of battery life changes as there are apps on your phone. It's even possible that no two users have the same cause of their battery drain.

A lot of people around the world connect to this forum. This is a worldwide forum, not just Apple USA. Today alone I have responded to people from China, India, Italy and Ukraine. In the past week at least a dozen countries. A level 6 I work with frequently is in Modena, Italy. One of my close associates responds to Russians in Russian occasionally.
As I’ve mentioned earlier i’ve got a brand new iPhone 8, bought from an authorized reseller in Russia. The problem with a battery drain on this phone started immediately after unboxing (11.2.5 was offered to instal during the first setup). The suspicious battery behavior was also confirmed by apple support, despite they said that the battery itself is in proper condition according to remote tests. They recommended to restore firmware via iTunes. The problem didn’t went away. Considering the above mentioned I have a really huge doubts that this might happen due to any third party app activity (because I set up my device as a new) and from any kind of settings it that I’ve made, because it was only a connection to gmail servers for sync of calendars and mail. On the other side, shutting down Siri and ICloud Drive was the solution for me. How could the battery drain be caused by anything else in my case if not by 11.2.5 internal issues?
I've downloaded the Battery Life App, and it does indicate that my wear level is very high. It is suspiciously coincidental that prior to my upgrade (3-4 years) the battery drainage seemed really impressive, but afterwards it was severely degraded. There are some users here that have reported there iPhone X's experiencing the same symptoms after upgrading to 11.2.5.
But for the sake of trying to be constructive, perhaps they are experiencing a separate problem, and I'm going to take my iPhone 6s to get the battery replaced (I'll have to pay $79 since according to the Apple website doesn't full under the allowed discounted group for some reason), and if need be do a factory reset of the phone. I'm willing to invest $79 and a few hours for a decisive conclusion to this issue:
- If issue is resolved - Perhaps the issue WAS the battery, OR a run away App behavior, OR a combination of both
- If issue is not resolved - My time with Apple is officially at an end.
I do not agree at all that this is not related to iOS itself for the following reasons:
1. The battery keeps draining even when the phone is in energy saving mode which disables background tasks of apps (according to apple).
2. I've used Intruments Activity Monitor to check what is happening in the background of my phone. What I can see it that the CPU usage stays high (> 30%) but there are no processes using that amount of the CPU (so I cannot relate the CPU usage of any of the processes with the total overal CPU usage).
3. I've used Instruments Energy Log and noticed that my phone just does not go into sleep mode when my battery is draining.
4. Killing apps that use most of my battery (as reported by the battery option of the settings app) does not solve this issue.
Anyway, my problem is solved by a restarting the phone. Whatever is causing the battery drain does not seem to happen at every boot.
Folks can verify if there phone is having this problem by checking if in the time since last battery charge the usage and stand-by times. If this times are almost equal (only differs a few minutes on hours) they are probably having this issue.
Siri probably wasn't the issue; iCloud drive was. Try turning Siri on and I think you will not see any degradation in battery life (unless you have Siri off for other reasons). iCloud drive can certainly cause battery drain, as I stated in my post. It's an example of syncing never completing. You may have a file in iCloud Drive that is corrupted. You can try turning it back on; frequently, leaving iCloud Drive off for a while can fix a problem. If it doesn't start moving files out of iCloud drive until normal battery life returns.

Yes, absolutely agree. And in my situation (the battery is new) seems that I have no choices. That’s the last apple device for me.
I think that's really funny. My co-worker switched to a Samsung, then dumped it because he had to charge it 4 times a day. Good luck with another product; maybe it will work better, but there's no guarantee. But if you want to spend $1,000 rather than troubleshoot the problem (which costs nothing) be my guest.
You shouldn't let your battery go dead. First, it significantly shortens the life of the battery, and it also can corrupt data on the phone (sort of like turning off your computer without running Shutdown), which would explain why the problem appears randomly after startup. For a normal shutdown apps are given a chance to clean up before iOS actually shuts down. If you do a forced restart apps do not get that chance, which is why Apple strongly advises not to do it unless the phone is unresponsive. After any shutdown all processes that sync to outside services such as iCloud, IMAP mail accounts and many apps (such as News, Weather, Stocks, etc) must update their contents. So any time you restart a phone (any phone, not just iPhones) for any reason it will use more energy until these processes complete. So you should wait until the phone has been fully charged until you check battery performance. And if iOS crashed, was force restarted or the battery died it can take much longer to fix corrupted data.

Nonsense. I'll stop feeding this troll as this is not constructive at all.
Just because someone does not agree with your or points out where you are wrong, doesn't make them a troll. Civil adults can disagree without resorting to name calling.
Hei guys, i have tha same issue,i have iPhone 7, 32G, after i updated to 11.2.5 my battery over night its horrible, i go to sleep with 100% and after 10hourl i remain with 22%. I update to 11.2.6 and problem still persist. If i Go to Settings > Battery. i dont have background apps. I tried with "low power mode on" and no difference. Apple please sole this problem.
It's a problem with your phone. It isn't a problem with my phone. Or with hundreds of millions of other iPhones. So the only way Apple can solve it is to see your phone. Make a genius bar appointment, or work on troubleshooting it yourself.
As the problem seems to be overnight, why don't you just plug the phone in overnight? It will be fully charged at the start of the day, and, if you turn on iCloud Backup it will automatically back up your phone every night when it is connected to Wi-Fi and locked.
Hi Lawerance,
Thank you so much for thread that explains the possible reasons for battery drain. I have an ipad air and iphone 7 plus. After updating to 11.2.5 noticed the ipad was draing 2 to 3% every 2 to 3 minutes. Your explanation made total sense so today cleared out the mail, unwanted apps, did the newest update ..since I had nothing to lose, then did the hard reset. After 100% charge, 2 hours later battery life 80% that is on track with the 10 hour battery life of an ipad air. Now working on my phone. Very happy that there are people like you that will take your time to advise in an eloquent manner.

I was one, untill I found a real explaination. Sure the reset was a hassle but I believe Its probably heathy do do once a year also will make me more aware of what to do for a clean update. I also realize having many devices over the years, when 1 thing goes bad or compromised it can send the rest out of sync.
I was having this problem as well. I contacted Apple support; they ran diagnostics and said everything was fine. I found a reply that recommended going into SETTINGS / MESSAGE and disabling and re-enabling iMessage. I tried it and the battery life has been more stabile (i.e., like it was before the recent iOS 11.2.5 update). Hope this will resolve your problem as well
