IOS 11.2.5 battery drain

I updated to IOS 11.2.5 a couple of days ago and the battery drain is immense. It went down 3% writing this!! Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix? I never had any problems with the previous software, only after updating. All settings have remained unchanged so it’s not them. I can use my phone and watch the % drain away within minutes. I have the iPhone 7. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Jinxedd,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that since updating to iOS 11.2.5 you're having trouble with your battery draining faster than normal. I know how important it is for your device to stay charged properly, I'd like to help. First I'd recommend reviewing the information here regarding iPhone Battery and Performance

Next, you can use these steps to see how your battery is being consumed as well as Settings you can change to get the most from your battery:

Check battery usage

Go to Settings > Battery.

To see how long each app has been open and running in the background, tap User uploaded file. Under each app, you might see these usage types:

  • Background Activity means that your battery is used while apps run in the background.
  • Audio means that apps play audio while running in the background.
  • No Cell Coverage and Low Signal means that your device is searching for a signal or being used with a low signal.
  • Backup & Restore indicates that your device has been backing up to iCloud or restoring from an iCloud backup.
  • Location and Background Location means that your battery was used when tracking your device.

Adjust settings to improve battery life

While viewing your battery usage, you might get a suggestion like Enable Auto-Brightness or Adjust Display Brightness. This is because iOS determined that changing these settings could improve your battery life. You can also see the usage times since the last full charge.

I wonder why apple is pushing such updates with bugs. One side 11.2.5 is draining out battery and other side they are offering battery at discounted prices. Is this coincidence or any backdoor game/deal? My Case: 100428531746. There has been a lot of media about Apple and battery life recently. Here is a message from Apple in regards to this: A Message to Our Customers

To address our customers’ concerns, to recognize their loyalty and to regain the trust of anyone who may have doubted Apple’s intentions, we’ve decided to take the following steps:

  • Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, available worldwide through December 2018. Details will be provided soon on apple.com.
  • Early in 2018, we will issue an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone’s battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance.

Same here, since I updated to iOS 11.2.5 I can literally see the procentage indicator counting down. Usually the phone stayed on 100 percent up to 25-30 minutes of usage after the phone got fully charged and did so until I updated.

Background updates is turned off, as well as background gps location services on. Display background light is on a low level. Generally I didn’t change any settings either after updating, but I lost 11 percent battery capacity within 30 minutes after the device was fully charged.

My iPhone 7 device is 13 months old and that issue came over night.

Very annoying

The battery sine I updated to iOS 11.5.2 is a joke! I’ve restored my phone 4 times, done a full clean install taking the phone back to factory settings (however this still keeps the updated iOS). I have no apps on the phone yet my battery just ticks away. I’m getting less than 2 hours on a full charge IN POWER SAVE MODE!!!.

The standard advice from apple to save battery power is ok for everyday use, but this is an iOS issue that apple should be dealing with yet are ignoring it. This isn’t a divice issue, it’s an iOS issue!!! Maybe Apple are getting their own back for being caught out messing with the software to make people buy a new product, or is that me being cynical?

Hi to all,

I just want to say that many of us who have purchased an iPhone, regardless of model types, have spent quite a lot of money. Shouldn't we be using and turning on functions that we want to use (location/background app refresh/etc) and still be able to experience the battery usage/consumption span that is realistically acceptable?

I think all the tips about maximising batteries and turning off this or that does NOT solve the problem of the unfortunate "premature battery drainage" which comes with the iOS update. This is unfair to all users and I suggest that somebody in Apple should address this problem as they would for the latest battery replacement scheme.

My iPhone 8 plus battery life was so good at iOS 11.2.2 until I have updated the software. I have updated the software as I have been experiencing call drops and cancellations. This is infuriating. I don't see the need for me to turn off this or that because I might as well buy a simple Nokia phone and forget about all the wonders of what Apple has to offer. Are we paying money for empty promises? Listen Apple, I am feeling it already.

So finally solved the battery drain after finding Photo Stream being the app that was constantly syncing after iOS 11.3 update. Probably something got corrupted during update and it was always trying to sync the photos. Today I will turn on again Photo Stream and see how the battery reacts.

Until now the battery is doing great: over 64 hours Standby and over 7 hours of Usage!

If many of you have an older iPhone, like iPhone 6/6S/6S Plus/7/7 Plus, then your iPhone battery may need replacing under Apple’s new reduced priced Apple iPhone Battery Replacement Program.

Your iPhone 6 may need a new battery.

Your iPhone qualifies for the reduced priced iPhone Battery Replacement program, which now, until the end of 2018, will only cost $29 U.S.D..

For older model iPhone, like the 5S/6/6S/6S/7/7S, a new replacement battery is the real key.

Your iPhone 6S could have been affected by Apple's inserted slowdown code in iOS 11 that affects performance of older iPhone with batteries that are degrading in performance due to age and charging wear and tear.

This would ONLY get worse with each update version of iOS 11, not better.

This is EXACTLY why Apple introduced the new reduced priced iPhone battery replacement program!

Older iPhones are running iOS and the phone hardware on less than ideally powered Li-ion batteries.

I have 2 questions for you:

  1. why do you think any of the users in this user-to-user forum gives a darn about how you spend your money?
  2. What are you going to do when whatever replacement phone you get breaks, and the seller tells you that you must replace it at your own expense? At least Apple gives you a replacement phone at a substantial discount. Most other phone manufacturers don't offer that option.

Interesting enough I have an old iPhone 5 as well. I upgraded this phone as well to 11.2.5 and it's not having the problem.

I spent 3 hours yesterday straight watching netflix on my iPhone 5 and the battery depleted at a normal rate to what I've noticed these last 3 years (I'd say 75%).

My iPhone 5 has significantly better battery retention then my iPhone 6s.

I really hope an immediate fix comes out, because my solution here isn't to upgrade to a new iPhone platform.

It's to abandon iPhone altogether after many many years.

I’ve just had my iPhone 7 returned by apple after a repair. They sent me a brand new phone running on iOS 11.5.1 so pre last update. Once I’ve put all my stuff back on via a restore, it will be interesting to see if the battery life returns to normal. I certainly won’t be updating to iOS 11.5.2! I’ll keep you posted as to elegant happens.

Same here. My brand new iPhone 8 doesn't even make it through the day. Empty in around 12 hours without even using it too much. Before the update to 11.2.5 it was working fine and lasted easily throughout the day. I've used the developer tools to monitor energy consumption but I do not see anything strange.
