MacBook Pro (I5-3210M)

Hello, I have a MacBook Pro a1278 (I5-3210M) A1278 (EMC 2554*). Running High Sierra. After some updates and turning my Mac off, it would try to reboot but just stopped at the end but not uploading to my server. I called Apple and we did a series of test that still did not work. I was messing around in the section where thunderbolt and Bluetooth pan is and I think I changed a setting that cause this but I don’t know. After reading up I found some other options. I did try the command D AHT and it lasted about 18 minutes and showed nothing wrong. It said it should last an hour so I’m wondering why it only lasted 18 minutes . Everything I’ve read is saying that my model doesn’t have the AHT but it does. I’m supposed to bring my computer into Apple two days from now but I need my computer now. Is there anything else I can do beyond this point to get my Mac running? I have a already tried the OS Utility. We did the recovery and re- install and it still isn’t working:( This is so frustrating I’m so far behind now. :( Anything that anyone can help me with would be much appreciated, thank you. Cynergi

Thank you for your reply. Anything helps. I actually already tried all of that. It just keeps doing the same thing only mine doesn’t shut off it just sits there with the bar fully loaded.

I will try to do the AHT online instead of the other way.

What a pain in the......

Yes it is. However, it's not an Apple specific problem. I'm guessing you probably had to force a power down once and then your first restart was when you first saw this?

Apologies for a less detailed earlier response. I was away trying to type away on a iPhone. I have an identical model (13" mid-2012 2.5), which was on the market for a very long 4.5 years. Probably the most common configuration of the MacBook Pro as a result.

I'm not sure Apple Hardware Test is going to find anything if it's really just your drive. What you really need is Disk Utility to run First Aid to see if it's corrupted and if so, if it can be repaired. There are different ways to do it though. At this point I'd recommend Internet Recovery. Hold option-command-R at startup, make sure you're connected to the internet (ethernet is best), watch the globe spin, and you will have the basic recovery options.

About macOS Recovery - Apple Support

Start Disk Utility, select your startup drive if it shows up, and select First Aid. If there's an unrecoverable problem it will let you know. There are all sorts of things that could be the root cause, including a crashed drive or just a corrupted one. Your issue may even be repairable. If it's not and it can be reformatted, there's a choice between doing that and keep it intact in hopes of recovering the data.

Hello. I’ve tried everything that. Was suggested but the problem is that when the Apple shows up with the taskbar, the taskbar moves reasonably fast 3/4 of the way And then takes forever to get to the end. Once it gets to the end it doesn’t do anything. It just stays on the white screen with the Apple and the taskbar fully loaded.

What do I do if this happens?

Thank you:)

Thank you everyone for your reply.😸

I ended up going to the Apple Store and had it wiped clean. I’ve downloaded the Hi

gh Sierra again to start all over. My question is, there are only two downloaded updates showing. Would there be other updates that I need to add manually? I am

switching to all Apple.. whoop whoop!!!!

I am used to a Dell/ Windows OS. .

Another question is would you recommend any adware/Malware removal software? I know that Mac is not typically known to get infected but from what I keep reading and with the recent one that happened, should I consider it?
