Crackling sound in headphones

When I have my headphones plugged in to anything, periodically it will have a crackling noise -- that, quite frankly hurts my ears sometimes and freaks me out! I haven't had these headphones very long and this just started happening about a week or two ago. There is no change as far as sound -- the sound isn't muffled or altered in any way.

Hello apenne312,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are having issues with your headphones and your iPhone. To help with your issue, please follow the steps below, as well as test these headphones in other devices and other headphones with your iPhone.

  1. Check for debris in the headphone port on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
  2. Check your headphone cable, connector, remote, and earbuds for damage, like wear or breakage.
  3. Look for debris on the meshes in each earbud. To remove debris, gently brush all openings with a small, soft-bristled brush that's clean and dry.
  4. Firmly plug your headphones back in. If your iOS device has a case, remove the case to get a firm connection.

If your headphones don't work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!
