No WiFi icon on Apple Watch series 3 GPS control centre (besides Airplane Icon)

That is normal.

Whilst all models of Apple Watch can connect to Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi button is only included within Control Centre for Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) models.

It exists for those models as an option for turning Wi-Fi off and forcing the watch to instead use the built-in cellular connection.

I had this issue. The wifi for the GPS watch (not GPS + LTE) will show up in the same location as where the green cell phone is shown when the phone is in bluetooth contact with your phone. Please note, with the GPS, you will not see the wifi symbol if your watch is currently bluetooth connected to your phone.

I had an issue with the wifi not syncing or being remembered. I needed to reset the network settings on my phone and log into the 2.4 ghz wifi at my house for the watch to be able to remember it. I could then log my phone into the 5 ghz and allow the watch to operate off the 2.4g.

I am experiencing the same issue, I have the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) model and there is no wifi icon present in the control centre when i swipe up from the main screen.

Please advise what steps to take to have this icon appear?

If you switch networks, the watch will too. Just keep your phone on 2.4 and you should be good.
