Ipad cropping my photos

i have a new IPad Pro and a SD card reader. In have the reader to “easily” check my pics as I always have my iPad and didn’t want to boot up my laptop. When I use this thing I can’t review my photos as they are all cropped to 1/5 of the the image captured. So I download them all (stupid). Now as I review them on my iPad, they are all still cropped to an unusable image size. This is absurd. Anyone have a fix for this nonsense? Do I have to go to Walmart and get a non-Apple product to get something functional?

I haven't tried using one of those readers with an iPad Pro yet, but maybe somebody will be along who has. Meanwhile, a couple of other things it may help them to know:

Where did these photos originate? (What model camera?)

What format are they in? (JPEG, RAW, etc.)

Are the pictures just smaller than expected, or are they missing part(s) of the image?

If they are missing part(s) of the picture, is it always the same part(s)? Which part(s)?

What version of iOS is running on your new iPad Pro? (11.2.5 is the latest at this writing.)

It is an Apple reader model A1595 that uses the Apple software on my 10.5” iPad Pro running 11.2.5. The images are missing about 80% of the image. The only way to see the entire picture is when in edit mode. any other time it is a sliver from the center of the picture. These are jpg format pictures at 4224x2376. The performance of this Apple product is less that expected.

Appreciate any insight as to why

OK, so you have a different reader (the newer USB3 model). Same graphic format, somewhat different pixel size (smaller). No answers about camera, SD card format, or diagnostic procedures tried. I don't think I have anything else to offer you at this time.

I dug my Apple-brand lightning SD card reader out of storage, plugged it into my iPad Pro (the larger current model running iOS 11.2.5), and inserted a newly made test SD card (freshly formatted with two test JPEG pictures). The Photos app popped up in Import mode. The entirety of both pictures showed up in the thumbnails. After import, they both showed up in their entirety. Both uploaded to iCloud Photo Library and downloaded to my other devices.

Let's examine the differences between your setup and mine.

My Apple-brand lightning SD card reader (model A1441) might not be the current version. Did you buy your reader recently? What model is it? (If you didn't keep the box, the model should be in tiny print on the reader.) Have you ever used it successfully, or is this the first time you've tried it? (You might have a defective instance; it can happen.) Have you tried it on a friend's or store's iPad to see if it works correctly there?

My test SD card is only 1GB, so it's not SD-HC or SD-XC, just SD. How large and what flavor of SD is your card?

My SD card is formatted as FAT16 by my camera, reasonable because it is only 1GB. How is your card formatted?

Have you tried multiple cards to see if the error persists? Are they the same variety and formatting?

My test SD card has been used with success previously. It was taken out of service only because I got larger cards. Have you ever been able to use yours successfully?

My test pictures were taken in JPEG only at 5472 × 3648 resolution with a Canon G5 X camera. Are yours JPEG, RAW, or both? What resolution? What camera (especially if you are shooting RAW)?

My iPad Pro is the current 12.9" model running iOS 11.2.5. Is yours the same model? What software level?
