I know the default is to assume that iPhones warranties are only valid in the country where they're purchased, but there's an exception for India. It would have to be one that isn't service carrier specific (like my unlocked iPhone 7), which is pretty easy to find.

Apple introduces international warranty for iPhones in India, but there’s a catch | Hindustan Times

Apple has quietly introduced the international warranty facility for its phones in India, which means people who have bought iPhones in the US or any other country outside India will receive warranty privileges here as well. But, there’s a catch.

The warranty is only for iPhones that are factory unlocked.

In various markets, Apple sells phones in partnerships with network providers. The deals usually mean the phones are available for a low initial cost but buyers commit to stay with the provider for a fixed period. People often buy phones abroad using such plans and force an unlock, which enables the devices to be used in India. Such devices will not be eligible for the international warranty.

Thank you for that additional, and I never said anything that you provided was a rumor site. I just said that I had not seen anything on any sites that provide information about Apple and its devices.

While I may indicate at some time that it could be possible for warranty service on a US phone in India, I'm going to stick to the standards of Apple's warranty statements. Buyer beware, and don't count on something that is possible and subject to change.

My advice to you is not to get involved with matters relating to India. The Indian government have not allowed Apple to operate as is the company's genuine practice because Apple do not accept having to have allow a 50+% majority share value to an Indian National.

The creation of the assembly plant in Bangalore is meant to be the door through which Apple can eventually open up genuine Apple stores. And long overdue they are.

It is interesting that the two links you provide for stories are dated in October, but I don't recall seeing any of this here on the forums, nor anything on the Apple site, or other US based Apple rumor sites. If this is quiet as you say, if no one here in the US is aware of it, how are they going to be able to answer questions such as this and be sure of the support. I'm not saying you are incorrect, and I have read both of the articles you linked, but neither of them seems to provide a link to an Apple document that verifies the information that I could see. I may be wrong, but I just would hate to incorrectly advise someone.

I am surprised our good friends, the hosts, have allowed this column to continue in its entirety for it is no longer technical. But I will add this.

I have some experience of India and with family connections there I sometimes need to read the Times of India. It is a very reliable source of information and from it I learned some time ago about the Assembly plant in Bengaluru and before that, a possible link with Tata branches of Croma Electronics.

But newspaper reports are just that; reports. As it happens, the former has now come true, the latter is in the sands of time.

But until Apple have a formal retail presence in India I cannot see much change in the circumstances governing Authorized Apple stores because Apple are not in a position to more than casually monitor trade there; the country is just too big and too complex to exert authority without the backing that a formal presence gives.
