Apple Watch Series 3 turning on by itself

I'm using an Apple Watch Series 3 running watchOS 4.2.2 and paired to an iPhone 8 Plus. Other than the problem described below, the watch is operating perfectly and is in perfect condition.

I've had four instances in the past month or so of charging my watch to 100%, then removing it from the charger, then turning it off and setting it on my table overnight. In the morning, I find that the watch has turned itself on at some point during the night and the battery is down a few percentage points (to maybe 97 or 98%).

Apple ran remote diagnostics on the watch today and found nothing wrong, and suggested next bringing it into an Apple Store to have them run more detailed diagnostics and possibly send it in for service or replacement.

I cannot remember if this was happening before upgrading to watchOS 4.2.2, or only after upgrading.

Question: Is anyone else having this problem? If so, did you resolve it? (and if so, how?)

Thanks, John

So you charge to 100% and do an actual Power Off? What is the reason for turning off? I charge mine during the night and just put back on in the morning. Rarely do I turn it off, unless it is to perform a reset.

If you have an Apple Store near you, by all means, take it in have them run more diagnostics. I find it nice to be able to wander around and play with the 'Toys'

Hi @mdhurst

I definitely understand why you're asking that question because I typically just drop it on the charger overnight and forget it until the next morning when I put it back on. I almost never turn it off...

But the point of the question is that in these few cases when I wasn't going to be wearing it for a few days I did turn it off, and...it turned itself back on.

Either there's a software problem (which I can't do anything about), or there's a hardware problem (which I do want to do something about under warranty, because it could lead to more problems down the road if I don't fix it).

I hope that explains better why I'm asking...
