I am running OSX Yosemite 10.10.5. I want to upgrade to El Capitan and not Sierra. When I go to download El Capitan from the App Store page (which only offers upgrading from Lion and Snow), I get the message that it cannot be loaded on this computer, although there is adequate space and memory. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can try to download it at the link below. If it won't let you, then your only options are to upgrade to Sierra/High Sierra or find an older computer where you can download it using your Apple ID.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.
Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

unless you had already owned OS 10.11 El Capitan when it was the latest OS from Apple, or your computer shipped with it or you have a physical copy and unless your computer would otherwise be unable to install OS 10.13 High Sierra then OS 10.11 El Capitan is no longer available to you though Apple and you will need to install High Sierra if you wish to upgrade.
