This Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this ipad - j******@gmail.com

tried to reset my ipad and it has the activation lock

i was able to connect to wifi and it says "This Apple ID ******** cannot be used to unlock this ipad"

the hint is j*********@gmail.com

that is correct and matches my email/icloud account.

i can login to icloud.com but there's no option for "my devices"

this is the only email address i've ever had.

it is not a wrong password, if i purposely type the wrong password, it tells me its a wrong password

it literally just does not like the apple id even though its the only apple ID i've ever had and used for this ipad

i connected to itunes and made sure the ipad is fully up to date

i tried to restore but it comes back on and asks for the apple id & password and then returns the same message that i cant use this apple id to unlock this ipad

i tried restoring it from recovery mode and its the same issue

i don't understand...

i purchased it brand new but its an older ipad and i don't think i'd have the receipt buried anywhere at this point.

when i login to icloud.com the options available are...

contacts, icloud drive, notes, pages, numbers, keynote, settings.

i dont see anything in settings or anywhere else mentioning any devices or anything about find ipad

Does the iPad show in the Find iPad section of that account on http://www.icloud.com

If you were the original purchaser of the iPad (i.e. it wasn’t bought used), you could try going to an Apple Store (make a Genius Bar appointment if you do) or try contacting iTunes Support online (https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html) and see if they can remove the iPad from the account - they are likely to want to see proof of ownership before they might help e.g. original receipt with the serial number on it

The "My Devices" section under Settings when you are on http://www.icloud.com reports devices that are signed in to your Apple ID and running iOS 8 or later. So it makes sense that if the iPad is Activation Locked, it does not appear there.

Here are the ways to turn off Activation Lock:
