Symantec Endpoint Protection has stopped scanning

I have Symantec Endpoint Protection on my Mac and as of today it has decided not to do scans anymore.

If I ry and run a full scan nothing happens, and if I try and run a custom scan of a specific folder or file, I get the message "Scan failed SEP could not load the scan engine. Please run LIveUpdate to get the latest version." However, according to the app and the website, I have the latest version as it was autoupdated 3 days ago.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a fix? Have already rebooted computer. I can try uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but this is a real pain because the antivirus is provided by my school and I have to go back through the process of getting it off of their site.

Thanks

Plenty of people use antivirus software on their Macs. The first thing you ever hear is "people think that just because they have a Mac, they are immune to malware, spyware and viruses, but that isn't true." The school has tons of people logging on and off of their PCs and hooking up drives from random computers that are subject to al sorts of malware and who-knows-what. So I can see them wanting us to have clean computers. Anyway, we aren't required to use it, but it is available for free (something that would cost a fair amount of money were you to buy it) and we are encouraged to take advantage of it.
