How do I change double click to single click to open folders and other things?

Not sure about the second part. There are three ways I can think of that would select a folder without opening it.

One is click and hold to move to another place. This is how other applications like an internet browser works. For instance you can drag a url to your desk top or click to highlight, both functions use one click.

You could select with a highlighting square.

You could use arrows on the keyboard to select one or multiple folders.

The only reason I can think of to select by clicking in order to do something else is to be able to drag to another place, but one could (and I do) that with one click. Or right click for options, which is one click. I just don't see the reason for a second click.

I use windows at work and school. I'll give the suggestion to Apple. Thanks
