AIRPOD connectivity to Dell with Windows 7 64 bit

Please someone help me. I purchased airpods and an Insignia USB Bluetooth adapter. I have the Bluetooth adapter installed on my dell that runs Windows 7 64 bit. For some reason it says connected to airpods, but there is no way for me to change the output of sound to the airpods. I am extremely frustrated. I am not sure if it is a driver or what but I have wasted hours. If anyone has had the same problem PLEASE HELP!
