iPhoneX Playing Sound While Muted

Recently i have noticed that my iPhone X will play sound from videos from Facebook, Reddit and YouTube through the speakers even though the sound toggle switch is off, and, when the device volume is set to off, indicated by the speaker with a line through it. I

t has happened many times recently. I was laying in bed and clicked on a video that should be silent because everything is muted and turned down, and yet the sound payed full volume. This happened several time recently.

Anyone else having this issue?

Anyone know if there is a way to prevent this?

Is it a bug, and has it been reported?

I searched around and couldn't find much indication that this has been addressed.

I have done some digging, and the last time this happened, i pulled down the control center, and while the volume control appeared to be all the way down, the icon inside of the volume meter, did NOT have a line through it indicating it was muted, i manually dragged the meter up, and then back down and only then did that speaker icon have a line through it. I believe this is a software bug on appl's side that the volume meter is not accurately displaying the volume, leaving me, and possibly you, into believing that the volume was at 0, and muted, when indeed it isn't.

I have experienced this as well. I had my phone on silent and the volume all the way down. I opened google maps to set a destination to see how long it would take and she started telling me where to go.

As indicated in my post, i have done that.

I generally always have the volume set to 0, the only time my phone makes noise is when i have headphone plugged in. Each time it has happened, I have quickly exited the app to stop the sound, then I have checked the control center, and the volume is listed as muted. Again, as indicated by the speaker with the line through it.

The 'mute' switch does not silence the phone. It only switches notifications and calls to vibrate only. Playing videos, music, in-game audio, etc. will still work. If you want to silence it completely, turn the volume all the way down in addition to engaging the switch on the side of the phone.
