Macbook Pro charger cord turning yellow

Hello,

My Macbook Pro charger is turning yellow near the connector (see below photo). I bought my Macbook new from an Apple store around March/April 2017, so it hasn't even been a full year yet. This happened with my previous Macbook Pro as well, though it took around 2 years for the cable to start turning yellow and eventually fraying. I remember I had to replace that cable as well, and my replacement one still turned yellow & frayed after a year.

Will the charger be replaceable? And why does this happen with every single Macbook pro charger? Considering the premium price, I would expect Apple products to be premium quality.

Both photos are of MagSafe 2 connectors.

I've got a MagSafe power adapter where the cable has yellowed in one spot. It also seems a bit brittle although I just wrapped it up in electrical tape since it doesn't seem like the wire has any issues. The insulator seems to turn yellow from something, whether it's heat or perhaps something chemical (contact with skin or or lotions perhaps?).

I noticed the same exact issue – around the time the OP posted this – on the cord which came with my Macbook Pro, purchased March 2017.

Even though it looked janky, it worked fine.... up until yesterday.

I just called Apple and they claim this isn't a "known issue".

In 4 weeks (as of 3/8/18) at least 10 other people say it is.

Apple will replace the cord if it is less than 1 year old, however, from what the woman on the phone told me, the replacement cord *will not* have a year long warranty.

That's B.S., Apple.

so sorry, I stand corrected.

I am reading too many wildly different posts in a row, and they are merging together in my mind.

Not a big deal; I think they would have figured it out. However, there are reports of the jacket material turning yellow. It could be any number of causes.

Apple's cords turning yellow near the connectors, is this dangerous?
