How do I remove websites from within the Safari preferences pane? I have tried everything - clearing history, under privacy, clearing all website data, etc. and yet I still have a website that I cannot remove no matter what I do. I have even deleted all Safari data from the Applications Folder
Please advise.

As the 2nd article points out, they are capable of regenerating after deletion with files that go to many parts of the system.

Quit Safari.
In Finder go to Go menu and then Go to Folder.
Copy and paste this ~/Library/Safari/Databases.
Delete the contents of the folder.
Launch Safari again and check if all is ok.
If that doesn’t work, copy and paste this ~/Library/Safari/LocalStorage.
Delete the contents of the folder.
Then go to Safari/History and delete any entries for the related websites.
Test.

Thanks so much for replying to my question. I read through the links and tried all of your suggestions and the web site still is stuck in my my Preferences/Websites display box. I had it gone for a short time, maybe for 15 minutes before I tried your suggestions and not sure what I did to get it removed but it didn't matter, it came back anyway.
I don't even know how this particular web site (I'm trying to remove) got into my computer, although I do have two rather promiscuous roommates that use my computer on occasion. I suppose that will let you know the website type that I am trying to get the **** off of my computer.
All of your suggestions were great and certainly worth a shot. Do you think running disk utilities - first aid, etc. would help?
Any other thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
I should point out that the fact that it is stuck in the preferences websites pane, does not seem to be doing anything harmful to my computer as far as I can tell but I would definitely like it to be gone without reloading the entire OS system, etc.

It depends how do you share your Mac with others so that they are also browsing and that sites websites are saved and its the only decision of Mac user to change the admin password and don't share it with others , for a single admin user in users and groups , open users and groups ( open the lock by entering admin name and password ) click on login options automatic login is kept as off and some change the settings as to name and password , so whenever a Mac user login the name and password field appears ( and nothing apart from it ) , see the screen shot only name and password is checked .
The roommates have guest appearance privileges , they can only browse the websites and have no control over read and write permissions ( can not change system files ) and and having very less control over Mac as compared to administrator macOS Sierra: administrator
