A huge chunk of iTunes library just disappeared

So iTunes must have updates or something because I opened it a few days ago and half of my songs were gone and all of my playlists were gone. All of the songs and playlists I had are on my mobile. I don't want to sync it to the computer because I'm afraid the computer will override my mobile and delete the missing songs on there, too. It seems to be completely random which ones disappeared. Some of them I purchased from iTunes and some I got from burning CDs onto the computer. All of the songs I've had on my iTunes library are in my iTunes Media folder, if that helps.

Check for available downloads should shown new content that hasn't ever been downloaded to that library. Typically used to download purchases to more than one independent library that you might have on different computer. Your unhidden purchase history will normally show in any new empty library as long as you are signed into your Apple ID. Rolling back the database as described in the user tip already linked to will normally show all of the lost content exactly as it was before the update. Occasionally you might need to try more than once, and you do need to make sure that you're working with the most appropriate versions of the Previous iTunes Libraries. Try again. If it still fails to pick up everything then the user tip includes suggestions on how to get the library to reflect the content of the media folder. There is also a link to Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device which has advice on retrieving media, ratings, playcounts, and playlists from a device if necessary.
