Double Tap on Air Pods Doesn’t Do Anything

I’ve had the double tap feature on my Air Pods turned off for about a year. Recently I decided to give it another try. When I went to turn the feature back on, I was surprised to find that, under “Double Tap on Air Pod”, they were set to “Siri”, not “Off”, where I had last set them. The thing is that no matter what setting I set them on, nothing happens. In addion to that, every time I disconnect and reconnect them they return to “Siri” rather than whatever setting I had set them on, and they continue to do nothing when I double tap them. I’ve done every combination of disconnecting and reconnecting, and unpairing and repairing there is. And no, I’m not double tapping them wrong. The weird behavior of the software seems, to me, to indicate that this is a bug, and not a hardware malfunction. Is this a know issue? Is there a fix for this?

Hi SPTrask,

I understand that your AirPods change the double-tap setting to Siri regardless of what you select, and it doesn't respond when you double-tap. I'm happy to provide some help for this issue.

First, check out the information here:

Use your AirPods - Apple Support

*If double-tapping to use Siri doesn't work, go to Settings > Siri and make sure that Access When Locked is on.

Since you've unpaired these multiple times and still Siri is always the default option, I recommend that you contact Apple Support for additional help.
