iMac RAM Upgrade

I have an early 2013 iMac and want to upgrade the memory. Does it have the be done at an Apple Retail Store? I know the late 2013 have to be taken in. If it can be upgraded how much do you think I would spend? More cost effective to get a new machine?

Is it a 2013 27" or 21.5" iMac...?

The 27" model has 4 user upgradeable slots.

see > Install memory in an iMac - Apple Support

and > RAM Upgrades for iMac 27-Inch (2012 - Mid 2015)

The 21.5" model must be completely disassembled.

For an estimate to upgrade the 21.5" model, you will need to call your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. see > https://locate.apple.com/
