iPhone 7 Plus Microphone Freezes Apps

Any app that uses the microphone on my wife’s iPhone 7 Plus freezes. Any made or answered call there is no received audio and they can’t hear her. When trying any video app, camera or Snapchat they hang. Voice Memo will hang when the record button is pressed, timer doesn’t count. I’ve tried restoring through iTunes with no luck. She is currently on 11.2.5. She thinks this started after updating, could this be software related or hardware? Also when ever a soft reboot is tried it hangs at the Apple logo, a hard reboot, power and volume down, is required, sometimes multiple times.

It’s a hardware issue caused by poor design. The logic board is allowed to flex to much causing a solder pad to become separated at a solder joint under the Audio Chip. It’s similar to a problem experienced on the iPhone 6 that caused touch screen to fail.

In a undesirable quest for thinner phones Apple is sacrificing quality. Perhaps phones prone to breaking is better for profits.

We did, was told that it's an internal hardware failure and that a replacement phone will be $349. Nice to know Apple doesn't stand by their products. Made the switch to Apple from Samsung hoping for better quality, I was sadly mistaken.

That’s the reason I ended up getting the 7 plus... my 6 plus had “touch disease” Steve Jobs is probably turning in his grave! I can’t believe I dropped $850 on this phone just to have to spend another $350+ a year later. My warranty was up on 1/22!! Ugh!

Same exact thing is happening to me. Can’t even use my headphones. What was the issue? Broken mic? I have an appointment Saturday but want to know what to expect. Thanks!!
