How do i remove fonts from the system?

Hello!

Does anyone know how I can remove some fonts (that I know I'll never use) from my Mac?

Some fonts don't allow you to remove them, and these are often the ones that I want to remove.

I want to remove the fonts to free up some space, and also to reduce the long list of fonts in sub-menus.

what you free up will be virtually imperceptible and could cause incompatibility with websites or other software, but if you wish to throw caution to the wind and proceed at what is entirely your own risk many of the fonts can be found in

Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts

otherwise you can organize fonts with Apple FontBook to better fit your needs

Font Book is not a very good font manager. Especially when you're trying to handle too many fonts with it. For Font Book, "a lot" is more than 500. For professional fonts managers such as Suitcase Fusion and FontExplorerX Pro, that's not enough to even make them yawn.

Your issue is typical to a corrupt Font Book database, which happens very easily when trying to manage a large number of fonts. Once it's damaged, the only cure is to reset it.

Restart the Mac and hold down the Shift key. Keep holding it until you're asked to login. You'll be in Safe Mode. Once at the desktop, restart again normally. Among other things a Safe Mode startup does, it clears all cache files from the user account you logged into, and clears Font Book's database.

Once you're back at the desktop in a normal startup, Font Book should be working correctly again.

Nope, me neither. The main reason for my article's existence is aimed mostly at users who need to get as many preinstalled fonts off of the system as possible so they don't get in the way of other versions clients send you. That, and the less fonts you have installed, the faster your apps open since they don't have to build such long lists of available fonts. Also, fewer open fonts means more room in RAM for other application or OS use.
