iCloud preferences wants to make changes...

I recently lost my iPad. I actually suspect that it was stolen. I’m trying now to figure out how to locate it using iCloud. I go to sign in and the next window pops up says, “iCloud Preferences wants to make changes to your account. Type your password to allow this.” User name: Owner Password: |______________ Cancel OK PLEASE HELP! Is this happening because someone HAS stolen my iPad and is trying to change something? Or what is the deal here??? I’m not very savvy with any of this...
