Factory Restore iPod 5th Gen without iTunes?

I have an IPod 5th Gen that I just discovered is a brick.

I could try selling it cheap on Ebay, but need it to be fully Factory Restored first.

But iTunes and my Macbook won't recognize it.

Any way to do it without?

Would the Genius Bar help me do that?

What I need is a version of iTunes that is earlier than the one I have. This IPod is now on the obsolete devices list. (It works perfectly and updated perfectly last time I was able to connect it - before the latest iTunes update.

I wish I'd had a Head's Up about this happening before it happened...

My question was; does anybody think they could/would Restore it to Factory Settings at an Apple Store?

Try reinstalling iTunes. Apple aren't overly interested in supporting discontinued models but iTunes is still supposed to be backwards compatible with all previously released devices. I'm happily still able to update an iPod classic and a 4th gen. nano with the latest iTunes.

You might be able to get the device restored in an Apple Store. Or perhaps a friend or colleague could do it for you.
