Pinging iPhone from Apple watch not working

I'm using iOS 11.2.5 on an iPhone 6.0. I try to ping my iPhone and get no sound. Any suggestions?

iPhone 6s, iOS 11.2.5

Follow the instructions here, if necessary including unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch - including if your devices indicate that they are connected, but do not behave accordingly:

Thanks so much for your reply. The iPhone is connected to my Apple Watch via Bluetooth and is in range. Might you have other ideas?

Make sure that your iPhone is turned on and in range. If your iPhone is not connected to your Apple Watch via Bluetooth, the ping won't work.
