Best to verify the network
If on WiFi try ATV on Ethernet
To see a current status of the network get a report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise and nearby networks
Test on another network

I’m having same issue with Netflix and Apple TV... my coworker has too, she told me to unplug and plug back in Apple TV. It worked but keeps happening. A lot more people having this issue than reported I’m sure!!!
There may be others having the issue but it is not the majority, when there is a bug this forum alone is full of reports, it can easily be replicated and this thread would have had a lot of activity within hours of being created. A reboot will reset the connection, but the underlying issue is still there so it persists. If you want to resolve the issue you need to investigate your network as initially suggested.
Same exact issue here, so annoying! Worked perfectly until last appletv update, now every time I hit play on a Netflix show it disconnects and won’t reconnect until I unplug it. It even works fine on other apps. I’ve tried everything, even reset the appletv to factory and it didn’t fix it. I am on the same network, it’s not that.
It’s so bizarre. Literally every time I hit play on a netflix show it does it, and only then.
I’ve coincidentally had this exact same issue starting last week and just switched internet providers yesterday.
The issue persists for myself as well, it was on WiFi before and I tried troubleshooting to no avail, I attempted to troubleshoot it again with the my new network via Ethernet, exact same issue.
As soon as I hit play on Netflix, from iPhone or remote, the iPhone and iPad can no longer see the Apple TV in question.
For about the same time frame, at the press of play on Netflix, I can see about one frame of a glitchy red smear, that just so happens to be when it disconnects, but I have no idea if they are related.
3 so far, reporting the exact same thing. It’s been happening to me for a couple weeks and I simply didn’t know where to post about it. Finally somebody else started this thread that showed up in my google search. If it’s not a bug, what would you call it? And if you need verification fine, I’ll post a video of it happening on youtube.
A bug would be something that impacts the majority of users because it would be an issue caused by the software. Whenever there is such a bug this forum alone is full of reports.
As it stands it is working fine here and for most, you need to properly look into your network and setup and take elsewhere to verify what is causing this for you.
Hello sir,
You are being quite inflammatory and intentionally unhelpful. It’s not the point of this forum to just repeatedly explain why the “way the question was stated” was wrong and to try to get the final jab, unless I’ve misunderstood it entirely.
If you have advice about how you would suggest we investigate our networks, that would probably be helpful. We are obviously not as proficient in this kind of stuff as you are.
I feel like I’ve investigated, albeit coincidentally, quite a bit by switching from wireless century link 40mb connection to Ethernet google Fiber 100mb.
My issue persists in spite of this pretty significant change. If you have ideas, please share, if you’d only like to correct and belittle those that are seeking answers (even if we haven’t phrased our questions in AP style), then I will report you to the moderators. That probably won’t achieve much because I hold no clout, but your kind of bullying behavior does not belong here.
Thanks.
Hello, I do apologize for misunderstanding, if you are still willing to help, I may have made a discovery that might clue us into what’s actually happening.
If my phone (iPhone 7) is in standard use and I make to interact with the Apple TV, not Netflix, everything works fine, but as soon as I click play on anything in Netflix, I get disconnected on iPhone and Apple Watch. Then if I go into my Bluetooth settings, I see that I’m connected to a device that does not have an info icon button and that has a string numbers and letters that are absolutely Ungooglable...
This has to be the hung connection between Apple TV and my device. This is where my certainty ends...
I’ll attach a photo of the Bluetooth connection. I thought it might have been malware as I can’t disconnect from it without shutting Bluetooth off entirely.
I hope this might lead you in the right direction of helping us few folks out. If not, we can maybe run it up the chain. I’ll also attach my about this phone details and what scans of my network and Apple TV that I can do for free with Fing. I apologize for the order of the images, I couldn’t control it.
Thank you for your help.
While it’s strange that it’s occuring in that fashion it’s still best to verify as above. I did some testing and was unable to replicate and haven’t seen other reports.
Well there are 3 of us so far on this page who have tge exact same issue, so it’s a thing, even if it’s not wide spread.
3 out of millions of users, if it were a bug it would be widespread. What verification has been done?
What does "investigate your network" mean? Could you expand a little on that?
Already went over that with you many times, you had no interest in doing anything about and made it quite clear of your attitude on the matter so I don’t wish to discuss it any further with you.
I feel you have misunderstood it entirely, much of that behaviour was from another poster and as such those posts were removed.
If you could run a diagnostic report using istumbler, netstumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, and nearby networks.
Netflix keeps disconnecting the Apple TV iPhone App
